Advantages: Relaxing, Moisturising, Fragrant
Disadvantages: Pricey
I personally find the idea of hot milk a little hard to take before bedtime. I don’t know what it is about it but the thought of it turns my stomach. Luckily this product is not designed to be eaten, but rather to be used in the bath and enjoyed. The Lush Hot Milk Bubble Bar Slice is thankfully not edible. Regular readers of my Lush reviews will be pleased to know that it passed the smell test (the ability to smell its’ fragrance against the overpowering background smell of a Lush shop).
For all of those not familiar with Lush Bubble Bar Slices, they are literally bubble bath in a solid form. What you do is break off a piece about two inches square and crumble it under the running taps, whereby it forms a blanket of absolutely lovely perfumed bubbles. As the bubble bar is solid it is ideal for travelling and you get a 100 gram block for £1.80. This seems a little pricey, but then again luxury doesn’t come cheap. I would say that you would get a good 5-6 baths from a 100 gram bar.
The Hot Milk slice has a rather gorgeous smelling (although a bit girly for me) fragrance that is quite hard to place. Lush seem to think that it is representative of the smell of hot milk, I must admit I disagree with this (or I think that I would’ve not gotten in the bath). What is apparent is quite a heady and heavy fragrance which tends to linger on the skin and clothes for quite a while. I think the main elements of the fragrance are the patchouli oil, orange oil and Gardenia extracts (gardenia smells heavily of Jasmine which is by far and away the most prevalent smell) .
The milk part of the bar comes from powdered coconut milk, which does seem to have a lovely moisturising effect on the skin. Cleopatra would have probably used this if it had been around in her time; milking all of those Asses must have been fiddly. The bar is also supposed to have a relaxing effect (hence the idea of having a hot milk before bedtime), and I must admit that I did yawn a few times and stretched about in the bath a bit. I also felt relaxed and warm after coming out on a cold evening, You could say that it did its’ job really.
Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Cream of Tartar, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Betaine, Coconut Milk Powder, Cocamide DEA, Orange Oil, Patchouli Oil, Gardenia Extract, Perfume, Colour 18050.
Overall I rate this Bubble Bar Slice highly as it smells gorgeous, does genuinely relax you, and seems to be moisturising on the skin. A perfect Bubble Bar Slice for a cold winters night; they can throw their hot milk into my bath in future;)
