Advantages: A nice delicate perfume, The genuine Lush feel
Disadvantages: The smell doesn't last long
Sounds vile, doesn't it? Bathing in stinky hot milk? Just thinking about it conjours up images of my nans kitchen before school when she'd (unsucessfully) try and force a mug of rank hot milk down my throat. Now, understandably this has put me off the thought of hot milk in and shape or form. So when I was handed a box full of Lush goodies for Christmas and I saw a bubble bar called 'Hot Milk' it sent shivers down my spine! lol
I was in two minds whether to just give this one to my sister but then I know Lush. I mean, I really know them and I KNOW nothing they sell would have a rancid odour whatever it was called. Seriously, they could name a product 'Dog Poo, Cat Wee Wonder Soap' and still sell it by the bucket load. So last night I ran a bath and decided to give the 'Hot Milk' bubble bar a try.
As Lush's wonderful bubble bars go, this one looks decidedly... well... boring. It's a beigey/orangey colour and looks like a lump of dried up sponge! You don't need to sniff the bar to realise this isn't going to pong like a pan of boiling milk with skin on top. It has a more subtle smell that my usual bubble bar of choice, I Should CoCo, but still contains Lush's trademark scrummy 'almost good enough to eat' smell. The main smell there is of a chocolate aroma, but there are very vague undertones of coconut and a general sweetness to the bar. Smells gorgeous.
Running a nice hot bath I crumble half of my bubble bar, which is actually more of a bubble lump shape, into the water. A tip here, don't add any soap or bubble bath to the water before adding your bubble bar otherwise it simply won't bubble! Providing you've not done anything silly like ignoring my tip, your bubble bar will explode in a mass of tiny bubbles as it hits the water and the fragrance will intensify as it rises out on the steam. With this Hot Milk bar the smell was so subtle when the bar was dry that when you smell it in all it's melted glory the rich aroma of white chocolate (you can tell it's definitely supposed to be white chocolate by now) just wafts away any other scent Lush have used in the bar. It's not one of those overpowering Lush smells that makes your whole bathroom smell gorgeous, we've got quite a big bathroom and when I use I Should CoCo the sweet smell makes its way to every corner of the bathroom. Hot Milk sort of lingers around the bath area without spreading itself around. When I lay in the bath and the water was close to my face I could distinctly smell the Orange essential oil which has been used in this bar and it compliments the chocolate smell wonderfully.
I've got to take a moment to mention the bubbles. All my adult life I've been searching for the perfect bubble bath, I've tried ones that cost 99p and others that cost me a tenner but nothing has ever given me the oodles of bubbles I desire. Until now. Crumbling just half a Hot Milk bubble bar into my bath has produced so many bubbles that I can sit in the water and the bubbles could shield my modesty in the event of having to be rescued by lots of hunky firemen. Oooops, sorry; that was last nights dream... Seriously, it's like sitting in foam with thousands of tiny soft bubbles that just sort of pop on my skin as I move about in the water.
After having my bath I felt lovely and clean despite not using soap and just relying on the cleaning ability of the bubble bar. The smell of the bar wasn't really strong on my skin and Mark didn't comment on how nice it smelt like he usually does when I have a Lush bath. This isn't because it didn't smell nice of course, it's just that by the time I'd dried myself and slathered myself in body lotion you couldn't really smell anything different from any other night when I get out of the bath. Now and again I could detect a faint sweet smell from my skin but as the time passed since having my bath the smell got fainter and fainter. It isn't a lingering smell, that's what I'm trying to say. If you've tried some of the stronger scented bubble bars, or indeed any of their bath ballistics, you'll know that the smell of a Lush product can follow you around for literally hours but this one (as delicious as it smells) lasted for around fifteen minutes after I'd got out of the bath. Not a disappointment at all though because the thing smelt so gorgeous while I was relaxing in the bath that I didn't really mind the lack of scent afterwards.
Costing £1.70 for a 100g bubble bar (which broken in half will give you two lovely bubbly baths) it's on a par with the rest of the Lush bars and although the scent isn't one of my favourites it's nothing to moan about either. One benefit of this Hot Milk bar is the relaxing sensation it produced after I'd had my bath. I'm not a good sleeper at the best of times but the night I used this I had a really good nights sleep and felt relaxed and refreshed when I woke up the next morning. Coincidence? Probably but I'll continue to buy Hot Milk just in case!
