Advantages: fuzz free legs for 2 weeks
Disadvantages: Oh it hurts!, Not enough cotton strips, Wax doesn't stay hot enough
After my disastrous attempt at using the Immac Hair removal mousse, in my quest to find a more satisfactory method of hair removal I turned to waxing. Yes, I had tried it before (and wimped out, leaving me stuck for hours with a waxing strip stuck on my leg, but with me too scared to pull it off!) but I felt that now I am old enough (and brave enough!) to withstand the pain. Well, maybe... I plumped for Immac Warm Wax with Aquasystem. You've seen the advert on TV, it all looks so easy and, most importantly of all, painless! It comes in a rather large box containing an applicating container, two wax refills and enough strips of wax to cover one leg. It comes fragranced with the scent of ‘gentle extracts of cotton flowers’ (which apparently are known for their softening properties). Basically, in the box you will find a small plastic container which you fill with very hot (not boiling- the manufacturers are very careful to state not boiling!) water, attaching the block of wax inside. The heat of the water melts the wax leaving it free to be rolled onto your legs using the roll on applicator. What could be easier? So, off I toddled to the bathroom, armed with the necessary equipment. Knowing how bad I am at working up the nerve to actually rip off the strip, I employed the services of my best friend to help. After checking first that I didn’t *have any spots, cuts, varicose veins, beauty spots, broken, irritated, sunburnt skin or skin that has suffered an adverse reaction to waxes in the past, that I wasn’t *elderly, diabetic or taking prescribed medicine for acne, I proceeded to fill the container with very hot (not boiling!) water and insert the wax tube. Being a bit of a weakling, I found it difficult to get the lid to click into place but luckily my trusty helper was around to lend a hand! After waiting 3 minutes for the wax to melt, I (cautiously in light of past experience
s) began to apply the wax to my leg. While it was quite hot, it wasn’t painful and actually felt quite nice! It also smelt really yummy- fresh and subtly floral. I'm starting to feel quite relaxed now but there's still that feeling in the pit of my stomach that knows something bad's about to happen... I laid the strip over and Jonny, my friend, says “You’ll never guess who I saw today”. Always up for a juicy bit of gossip, my attention is instantly diverted and I’m wide-eyed with anticipation as I ask “Who?”. This is the point where the sadistic boy decides to rip off the strip and, while I have to admit I screamed, it wasn’t half as painful as I had expected! After a few tries the scream had diminished to a small whimper as my pain threshold was raised! However, the first problem that I encountered was that there are not enough strips to do two legs and, although the instructions say that you can use both sides and then stick two together, I found that this wasn’t very effective at actually removing the hairs. Luckily my friend had a waxing kit (don’t ask!) with plenty of spares but I hardly think it’s going to break the bank for Immac to provide a few more strips of cotton! The second problem was that as the water cooled, so did the wax, meaning that the water had to be replaced. A bit of a pain when you’re in full waxing mode! Although, according to the instructions, “thanks to the unique heating system, the wax remains at the correct temperature during the whole hair removal process”. Maybe I was doing it wrong! While other people have complained that this is messy, I didn’t find it any messier than other waxes (or hair removal creams) that I’ve used. After using this product, my legs were gorgeously smooth for two weeks afterwards! I could hardly resist stroking myself and cooing with delight! The ouch factor was not as
high as I remembered and I would say the pain was worth it! The re-growth was also much finer and hardly visible. The main problem I find with waxing is the fact that, in order to have hair free legs, you have to let the hair grow to a gruesome length in the first place! I think I’ll probably be saving waxing for special occasions. While I only used this product on my legs, it is also suitable for use on underarms (ouch!) bikini line (eek!) and arms. I paid around £5 for this in Tesco, but after buying the box which contains the applicator, you only need to buy sets of wax refills which works out much cheaper. I did some quick maths and worked out that if I could be bothered with the hassle of waxing, it would be much cheaper than shaving!

- 16/04/03 2 weeks 'til the hair grows back sounds good! Especially since I use hair removing cream, and I get really annoyed when the hair grows back in about 4 days!
Good op! :o) |
