Advantages: Smells lovely, cheap, works well
Disadvantages: Slightly wetter than Dove in application
I don't know whether all branches of Tesco's are the same but our local branch has a display of seriously cheap items which includes cereals, household cleaners and toiletries amongst others.
When I was shopping there a couple of weeks ago I noticed a roll on deodorant for £1 and decided to give it a try. It was Cussons Imperial leather Original so it was a brand that I trusted so I thought I wouldn't go far wrong.
I normally stick to Dove for my deodorants as i know they all work well and don't sting even after shaving but occasionally I like to try something different - I don't want to miss anything do I?
The packaging
As I said it is called Imperial Leather Original and it comes in a white container with a bright pink screw top. The container is an odd curved shape so that it is easy to grip and use. The label on the front announces that it is 'anti perspirant and deodorant'.
Once you unscrew the cap you are faced with a nice big ball (ooer missus!) which makes applying the deodorant to your underarms nice and easy. The deodorant runs freely and there is never any problem with it drying out.
The smell
I was really impressed with the fragrance of this one. It is fresh and flowery and I kept getting a whiff of it every so often during the day which was nice. Obviously I was going somewhere special and wearing nice perfume this wouldn't be appropriate as the fragrances would compete, but for an every day deodorant I really liked the smell.
Did it work?
Well of course this is the most important question isn't it? Having a deodorant that looks nice on the shelf and smells nice under my arms is no good at all if it doesn't work!
I am pleased to report that the deodorising and antiperspirant effect lasts all day even when I am working in the garden or spending the day on the promenade selling lifeboat souvenirs.
I must admit that when I shaved under my arms I used my usual Dove for a couple of days so I can't comment on whether it is painless after shaving!
I did notice that it went on slightly wetter than Dove and my armpits took just a little longer to dry than usual, but it wasn't too much difference. I didn't have to flap my arms around to dry it so I didn't frighten the cat!
The cost
As I have already said the cost of the deodorant was just £1 and for this I got a 50ml of deodorant which is the same size container as my usual Dove. After all it isn't worth getting a 'bargain' if you then find that the volume in the container is less than usual.
Other stuff
Being a roll on, it is in a small container making it ideal to take on holiday, and as it contains no propellant it can be taken on an aeroplane with no fear of explosions.
The other advantage of using a roll on deodorant is that it is kind to the environment, as it does not contain any CFC gases.
Even though the container is a strange curved shape the top of the lid is flat which means that, when you get to what appears to be the end of the deodorant, you can store it upside down and get at least another week's worth of fresh armpits. It might sound a bit scrooge like but I don't like wasting anything and we are in the middle of a credit crunch after all!
All in all I am very impressed with this deodorant - it works well, it is cheap and it smells lovely! I shall definitely buy it again.
Summary: I will buy it again
