Review of Johnsons 24 Hour Hand Cream
**Why I bought it**
As many of my Dooyoo aquaintances know, I lead a somewhat 'alternative' lifestyle. Much of my time is spent out of doors, about 80% in fact. I live for the better part of the year on a narrowboat, which is a marvellous way of life and one I thoroughly enjoy.

What has this to do with handcream?
Well, living on the boat has many advantages but a major disadvantage is the rough treatment my hands tend to recieve! Mooring the boat involves pulling on and then tying ropes which are often wet and muddy. Operating locks on canals and rivers is a strenuous task, a heavy lock gate made of metal and wood needs to be pushed open and then closed and lock paddles are operated by means of winding a metal windlass in the operating gears. As a result I often find my hands are chapped, rough and sore, not to mention unsightly! Gloves are not really an option, I find I fumble about too much when wearing them and as you need to move quickly at times, there simply isn't always an opportunity to put them on before leaping off to moor up! I need a handcream that will protect my hands as well as provide the usual softening, skin conditioning one expects hand creams to deliver.

I discovered this hand treatment late last year and have used it continuously throughout the autumn months when travelling and during the winter at home.

**The product**

Johnsons 24 Hour Moisture hand cream is a soft, light balm designed to leave hands feeling soft even after washing. It contains skin conditioners, moisturisers, and softening oil which Johnson's claim will soak in to boost 24 hour hydration, helping to reduce skin tightness, reduce skin roughness and refresh dull looking hands. It is a light, silky textured gel-like cream. It sinks into the skin quickly and is easily absorbed. Unlike some other hand care products, this does not leave a sticky residue, something I really appreciate, I hate that sensation!
The hand cream is lightly fragranced, it is not overpowering and smells fresh, slightly lemony and reminiscent of Johnson's baby products. The colour of the cream is a pale creamy/pinky tone.
The active ingredients are as follows:-Water, Glycerin, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-6, Squalane, Glyceryl Oleate, Carbomer, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Citrate, Benzalkonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Fragrance, Red 4, Yellow 10.

**My experience**

Although the product's advertising blurb states that the hand cream helps heal and protect hands for 24 hours, lasting through multiple washings, this was an exaggeration in my experience. It certainly does heal and protect and the hand cream is long lasting, however I do need to reapply several times a day for maximum benefit. In all fairness to Johnson, perhaps a person with a less (pardon the pun) hands on lifestyle, would not need to reapply as often as I do. The hand cream has improved the condition of my skin, softening and healing the rough calloused areas and the general appearance of the skin on my hands is better since beginning to use the hand cream.

The product is presented in a pale pink tube, the Johnson & Johnson logo is prominantly displayed and the tube is decorated with a shadow image of a feathery hand shape.
The tube is fitted with a pink flip topped lid. The cream is squeezed out through a hole in nozzle, care needs to be taken as too firm a squeeze will result in too much cream coming through which is of course wasted. This design seems to be a very popular one with this type of product (manufacturer take note....please!). I can see no mention of recyclability of the packaging, however the lettering on my tube is somewhat worn away, so my apologies to Johnson's if I am mistaken on this point.

The size I purchased is 3.5oz, at a cost of £1.99 from Boots the Chemist. The price may well vary in other outlets. The product is widely available and further information about Johnson's products can be found on their website.

**Conclusion**
This is not a miracle product, it is however a very good hand cream which I found to be effective and pleasant to use. It's claims are not 100% but as I have stated, perhaps my personal requirements are not altogether simple. It is a little pricey considering the tube is not very big, however, I would recommend this product to consumers.

Thank you for reading.

Good review here; perhaps you could test it a bit further by putting on cotton gloves before you go to bed; the hydration claims are probably tested using this as most beauticians recommend doing this for hands or feet for complete softness in the morning.
