Advantages: good moisturizing effect, natural looking slight tan, nice smell
Disadvantages: you have to take time when applying
First of all I have to say that I'm ashamed to find it necessary to resort to tanning lotions. Being of part Oriental origin (Asian for Americans), I'm never really white. But in the last few years, since moving north, to the West side of Scotland, that's just not been enough. We get miserably little sunshine even in "summer", and so I have been forced to top up the colour by using "artificial crutches". Not that I ever admit that to anyone. If someone comments on my colour, I just say that I always have a bit of colour or mention the sunbed. Both are true, essentially.
This leads me to Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion. I first spotted it being advertised on TV in spring 2006. It seemed like a good idea to have self tan as part of your body lotion. In fact I had tried to improvise something similar myself before, and it had worked surprisingly well.
Research showed that it comes in 250ml and 400ml bottles. The original version is available for lighter and darker skin. Later on, during the summer, a night time version and one with skin firming ingredients were released. These two are so far available with only one colour intensity. All bottles are pale yellow and shaped the same as previously existing lotions from Johnson. The specifics of all the lotions are clearly printed on the front of each bottle.
The recommended prices are £4.95 and £6.99 respectively. But if you're patient, you can easily find a cheaper deal. I have always pid less so far.
It has been said that the lotion can make you look yellow, and that it rubs off after showering. But I have found that with a bit of practice you can avoid both. Maybe since I'm slightly yellow already, and with the occasional use of sunbeds, I seem to have a "tinted canvas". The end result looks very natural. Also despite containing only a small amount of self-tan, the effect is visible from the first use.
But I have found that you have to take your time, and rather apply a little less. You can easily add some later in the day. But for an even and natural result you have to use no more than your skin can easily absorb at one time. Otherwise you may find it does rub off, or even just disappears where ever you sweat the most. I experienced this on the inside of my elbows when I first started using the lotion.
And of course, regular scrubs to remove dead skin, also ensure an even result.
With using moderate amounts of lotion, you can put your clothes on in less than 10 minutes after application.
To sum up, I can say that this products gives you good value for money. With a little practice and patience you may expect above average results from it.
Summary: a satisfactory product
