Advantages: gives a good colour
Disadvantages: smell! Patchyness...
We've been very lucky over the last week or so, the weather has been fab. A bit of sun and a tan always cheers everyone up. Unfortunately I've had one day in the sun as the rest of the time I've been stuck inside at work! This has made be feel like I've missed alot and certainly pale compared to friends who've been basking in the sun and now look lovely and sun kissed.
If I can't get a real tan I have to cheat.
History
Johnsons was one of the first company's to make this sort of product (fake tan mixed with moisturiser), it was instant success and al the big names quickly followed including Nivea, Dove and Loreal.
Packaging
The bottle is around 8 inches tall and goldy, yellow kind of colour. Not the most attractive colour but it does stand out on the shelf. It has a flip top lid which opens easily but is secure when closed firmly. The bottle has a nice curve which is quite cute and makes it quite attractive (apart from the colour).
The lotion
The lotion is creamy and has a light consitancy. It rubs in well but you can't see where you've put it as it is not tinted. The smell is not too pleasent, quite sweet and sickly when you put it on. It dries relatively quickly.
Performence
The colour comes out after a few hours, I find the streaks come out first which is not too pleasent. The smell changes to quite a biscuity smell I think but my boyfriend refers to it as a 'beefy' smell...
The variety I used is the medium to dark (instead of fair to light) and I find the colour to be quite good, it's not too deep but good enough to make you look sun kissed and tanned.
It certainly looks best the first day after using it, I often find the second and third day it goes very patchy and looks like you have some horrible scaley skin disease.
Value for money
It is quite good value for money as long as you buy it from the right place. You can get it in most of the cheaper shops such as pound shops and body care which works out better value for money than the £3.50 ish they charge in boots.
Conclusion
Although its supposed to be more subtle and easier to use than fake tan, I don't there is much difference. You still get the orange patches and the horrible smell. However it works and gives me a bit more colour so I keep using it.
Summary: The orginional.
