Advantages: Leaves skin feeling smooth
Disadvantages: Makes me look orange and stripey!
Whilst I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a milk bottle, I also wouldn't say my skin has a lovely warm glow to it that I so desire! This is not something that I find to be an issue in the colder months as I am to busy layering myself with jumpers and woolly socks. However in the rare times that we do get a bit of sun, I don't think people should be subjected to the paleness of my skin!
I have tried numerous fake tanning products but I just don't get on with them, so I decided to try Johnsons Holiday Skin Body Lotion when I saw it on offer in my local Boots store.
~~The Packaging~~
You can't really miss the product because of the packaging and its bright colours are what initially attracted me to take a closer look at the product.
It is in a yellow bottle which really stands out from a lot of other similar products. The text on the bottle claims to gradually build a light and beautiful tan whilst also moisturising the skin.
The body lotion comes in a 400ml bottle with a flip lid at the top (this lid can also be fully removed to get the last bits of lotion out the bottle if necessary).
~~The Product~~
It is important to note that the lotion is available in different strengths, as I just wanted a natural and healthy looking glow I chose to use 'normal to fair skin'.
The consistency of the body lotion is much the same as any other moisturisers I have used in the past and feels pleasant enough to apply to the skin. You can see the fake tan within the lotion as there is a slight tint to the cream.
However the actual smell of the lotion is highly unpleasant. As it only contains a small amount of fake tan you don't expect the smell, however you can distinctively smell the fake tan. Johnsons have obviously attempted to reduce this smell by adding floral scents. However the two smells simply clash, in my opinion making it even worse!
It is easy enough to apply and actually leaves my skin feeling quite soft.
Whilst on the first application you can't really see much of a difference, after a number of applications you can see the colour begin to build up.
I wouldn't describe the colour as natural - more orange. You can clearly see marks where you have stopped moisturising and your skin in general begins to look quite streaky and patchy.
Also one aspect I hadn't thought would be a problem is the marking it has left on clothes and sheets. As it only contains a small amount of fake tan I hadn't expected any of it to rub off my skin, however it did leave several of my bed sheets looking quite orange!
After two weeks I decided I just looked two orange so had to body scrubs in order to get all the build up off my skin - but I still looked a bit patchy!
I dread to think what I would have looked like if I chose to use the next strength up of the lotion.
~~Price~~
When I bought this it was on offer at about £2.50 in Boots, however having checked the Boots website I can see it is now £4.57
Summary: Not great for a natural look
