I got a small tub of L’Occitaine Precious Cream in a beauty box a while back. I was shocked to learn that a full size (50ml) jar of this costs £46 – clearly my sample was good value!
The product is described as a “triple-action formula” with active molecules to help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the skin, as well as increase firmness and assist with anti-ageing protection. It contains organic immortelle essential oil and organic immortelle cell extracts – I confess I have no idea what these are! It is described as a rich, smooth moisturiser which is ideal for dry skin.
Admittedly, I have combination/oily skin rather than dry skin. However, I thought that if I used this overnight during the winter, it would do my skin some good. The moisturiser had a very faint but pleasant scent, and was quite thick. It was easy to apply and didn’t cause my skin any irritation at all, although it did feel quite thick on my skin, and slightly greasy.
After regular use, I was disappointed to find that I was getting the odd spot and my face was feeling a bit “overloaded” and slightly greasy. I think this product must have been too much for me, even in the winter.
In short, I definitely wouldn’t buy this as it’s expensive and didn’t do anything for my skin, to say the least. However, if you are older and have wrinkles and/or dry skin you might wish to try this in case it helps you. In fairness the cream isn’t really aimed at me, but I’d still recommend trying a sample first if you can, as it’s a lot of money to spend on a face cream!
I've been using this cream for a few weeks now and I am in love with the formula, consistency and results it has given!
Nice to meet you
I received the pot of L'occitane Precious Cream in a beauty box last year. The first impressions of the packaging were great, I loved the little blue glass jar which looked traditional and vintage on the dresser. Inside, the contents were even better than it looked.
This cream is quite thick so I use a cotton bud to dig out a pea sized amount which is more than enough to do my face and neck. It sits pleasantly on the skin and sinks in well too equally good used as a day or night cream. It's quite deeply moisturising so great for dry skin but if you have greasy skin I would say avoid this massively!
The only slightly negative thing I can think to say about this product is the heavy fragrance it has. It's OK, not offensive and a smell that you can get used after that initial shock.
A 50ml pot is £45 on the Debenhams website so this is not a cheap face cream but I really do like it!
I love this face cream and it has really helped keep my skin in great condition during the dry winter months. It is probably not a face cream I would use in the hotter months, I'd probably use something a little lighter when it gets warmer. I like the consistency though am a little shocked at how much a jar costs. It would probably last for ages though as it goes a long way.
I love this cream and now want to try the other products in the range, which also comes packaged in the lovely blue jars and bottles - eye cream and water as well as more of this for the colder months.
I had read good things about L'occitane's Immortelle Precious range in many a magazine and was very curious to try the day cream for myself. Buying one was a real treat as, at approximately 45GBP per 50ml pot, it was the most expensive moisturiser I'd ever purchased! I'm a Caucasian female in the 20-25 year old bracket with a dry and sensitive skin type.
The wow factor ingredient in this cream is Immortelle flower extract, which is said to target skin concerns such as lines, wrinkles and a lack of firmness. Because the main active ingredient is plant based, I didn't have any major concerns using this cream, despite the fact that I am not in an age group who generally suffer from deep wrinkles.
The first thing I noticed when I used the cream was its luxuriously rich texture. Although it is specifically a day cream, to me it felt more like a night cream, which isn't a bad thing as it means a little goes a long way and I can make my pot last longer!
The smell of the cream is hard to describe. In my opinion it's somewhere between a green floral and slightly herbal scent. Either way, it is a very pleasant, refreshing smell.
The cream didn't take long to sink into my skin and as soon as it had, I touched my face and could feel the boost of moisture it had provided. My skin felt soft, supple and bouncy. As someone with a sensitive skin type, I was happy enough when there was no stinging or tingling feeling upon application, but this cream actually went one further and left my skin feeling cooled and calmed.
After a week of use I could see a visible improvement in the texture of my skin. The problem areas around my nose, chin and forehead were a lot less flakey and my skin appeared generally healthier.
Because of the cream's price, richness, and how effectively it moisturises my skin, I now only apply it around once or twice a week. For me, it's a fantastically reliable go-to product for when I have a sudden flare up of sensitivity or dryness, as I know it will help to re-balance my upset skin.
It is worth mentioning that there is also a version of this day cream which includes an SPF of 15, but because the primer I use has a high SPF I purchased the regular one.
Finally, the one complaint I have about this product is that it didn't (when I made my purchase) come with a little spatula to scoop the product out with. There were spatulas in the branch of L'occitane that I visited, though the sales assistant told me that they weren't for sale. For the price, I would have loved to have been provided with one, as it would have allowed me to have applied the product in a more hygienic way and avoid any chances of contaminating the cream with dirty fingers.
