I went to a Christmas event at my local L'Occitane store one evening earlier this week. I paid £10 for the ticket to this event and the reason I decided to go was because for the £10 you get a goody bag containing various products worth about £40 to £50 in total, so now I have quite a few new items from L'Occitane to try out. If you do want to buy stuff from L'Occitane for Christmas presents etc these events are also quite worth it as they give an extra 20% off on the evening. The one I went to was advertised in Marie Claire so keep a look out for ones being advertised if you are interested!
L'Occitane is a popular French company that makes natural beauty products. I don't buy their products too often but I do tend to receive a few as gifts and I do like this company.
I received the lavender body lotion in a 75 ml bottle which is the smaller size that you often get in gift sets. It is still a good size and is a full product, not just a sample. The bottle looks simple but nice and has typical L'Occitane branding, description in French and English and the usual little silver lid with a kind of flip cap mechanism to it.
The lotion is white in colour and when it comes out it feels quite runny, but not watery as it has a definite creamy texture and silkiness to it. It feels rich and luxurious on my skin and it spreads out and rubs in beautifully, covering my skin really well with just a small amount of the lotion. It absorbs easily and does not leave any film or tackiness on the skin surface. It is really effective and lovely, as it leaves my skin feeling so soft and thoroughly moisturised.
However, before I even noticed how effective it was, the first thing which caught my attention was the scent! This lavender body lotion contains essential oil of lavender from Haute Provence, and the scent is quite strong and very very natural and genuine smelling. The first time I used this lotion I was a bit taken a back by the strength! I only put a bit on my leg and then stopped as I felt it would over power the perfume I wanted to wear and cause an unpleasant clash with other products, as it was much stronger than most body lotions I use. I felt that for me as someone who likes to wear perfume this lotion is a bit unsuitable for use in the day time due to this issue. In my opinion lavender is something I would more expect to smell on a much older person rather than someone my age (26) when out during the day. I also do think lavender is more of a bed time smell as My mum always used to tell me that a drop of lavender oil on the pillow was the best thing to make you sleep.
Therefore I am keeping this body lotion as one to use before bed. In the evening I do quite like this scent as lavender smells a bit nostalgic for me and reminds me of childhood summers as we had a big lavender bush in our garden. The scent of the lotion does linger on my skin for a while but not as long as I had thought that it would.
Overall this is a really lovely product to use to keep my skin moisturised, soft and supple, but only if you like or can tolerate the scent of lavender, and just be aware that it may cause clashes if you try to wear this in the daytime and then put a perfume on.
It is also worth mentioning that the lotion has an eco certificate as 99.78% of the total ingredients are natural and around one third of the ingredients are from natural farming.
This costs £18.50 for the 250 ml or £8.50 for the 75 ml travel size which I have, which I do think is quite expensive. I doubt that I would pay that much personally to be honest, but I will enjoy usinng the one I got in my bargain goodie bag.
