The French company L'Occitane has a real 'thing' about roses and regularly introduces new products and delists old favourites. The Creme Ultra Riche Corps (or Ultra Rich Body Cream) in the Vineyard Rose was delisted about 3 years ago. Fortunately I bought up six tubs from the stock in one of their sales in Jan 2013. I'm down to the last couple of tubs now and I'm going to be really sad when it eventually runs out. The Vineyard Rose body cream is far and away the best of the many L'Occitane rose products that I've tried to date, having a more edgy, less 'sweet' scent that reminds of roses mixed with citrus fruits.
The standard tub was 100 ml which I soon discovered was plenty for me on a two week holiday somewhere hot. After a day of exposing my lily-white body to the elements, I knew I could get things back in order with a good dollop or two of this product. I'm currently on holiday in India and working my way though another pot. Not only does it spread well so that it gives good coverage, it soaks in quickly and leaves the delicious rosy scent on the skin for hours after.
The remarkable thing about this quick 'soak in' of the products is that it contains 25% of shea butter, an amount which would normally make a cream heavy and claggy and rather slow to be absorbed.
Despite my tubs now being a few years old, the scent has not degraded. The product is good for 12 months after opening, so I've just kept the sealed tubs stored in a cool dark place and they are fine.
I am a great believer in you get what you pay for and this L'occitane Rose body cream certainly did not let me down. I bought it without hesitation as I have tried many of the L'occitane products and have always been delighted with the quality and value for money.
This body cream comes in a small 100 ml pot but boy does it last. The cream is so concentrated a very small amount goes such a long way. I use it after my morning shower as it sinks in so quickly and does not leave a sticky residue on the skin. I can smooth it over my body and it sinks in so quickly that I can get dressed almost immediately ( I usually brush my teeth and then pull on my clothes just to let it sink in).
The texture of the cream is luxurious and smooth and sinks into the skin leaving it feeling smooth, silky and comforted. I don't have exceptionally dry skin but I find that this cream keeps my skin feeling moisturised all day. Any areas of skin exposed on my arms, legs and décolletage are left with a lovely sheen and looks in such good condition it gives me the confidence to wear shorter skirts and lower tops. Anyone who has a dry skin would definitely benefit from using this cream as it is so much more than just a moisturiser, giving comfort throughout the day.
I have talked about the texture and benefits but have not touched on the scent of the cream yet. As I am not a fan of rose scents I was unsure about this Vineyard Rose but it is not like any rose scent I have smelt before. It has a delicate, sophisticated natural rose scent that lingers all day long. It is certainly not like the synthetic rose scent that my granny used to wear. Such a true soft real rose scent that in my opinion only L'occitane can produce. I must say that I am totally addicted to this product and will have a fit if L'occitane ever retires it.
I have given it to my family and friends for gifts and have had nothing but praise for it and am always asked the question; "where can I get it?"
There are just not enough stars to give this product - I absolutely love it. It's divine!
Whilst I have no brand loyalty when it comes to the every day toiletry products when I feel like having a bit of a pamper I allow myself to use my far more luxurious toiletry products and currently this collection consists mainly of L'Occitane items. The French brand is a favourite of mine and has been ever since it was introduced to me by my mother a few years ago who has been using their products for a lot of years. Recently L'Occitane had a pretty decent summer sale where I was able to stock up on items that were heavily reduced in price, making them a much more bank friendly purchase.
One item I bought was the Ultra Rich Body Cream Vineyard Rose. I had been eying it up for a while but at the full retail price of £16.00 it was a purchase I really could have done without. It was however in the sale at a more reasonable £8.00 so I snapped it up. I am a huge fan of rose as a fragrance but it is not to be confused with the synthetic fragrance which I cannot stand. I find L'Occitane use natural fragrances so the natural rose aroma is present and is divine. Having used a number of their rose fragranced items I hoped I wouldn't have been disappointed with this one.
The Ultra Rich Body Cream Vineyard Rose is said to give the "ultimate moisturising comfort" and is more specifically suited to those that have dry and dehydrated skin. I am one of those who generally suffers with dry skin so always need a body cream or moisturiser which is more specifically targeted for dry skin sufferers. The body cream consists of 25% shea butter which makes this quite a high concentrated cream - again ideal for dry skin! Shea butter is know across the world for its moisturising properties as it helps to protect the skin whilst being incredibly gentle. The shea butter is teamed with vitamin E and honey which again care for the skin but also rehydrating it.
The Ultra Rich Body Cream Vineyard Rose comes in a small round pot with a black screw on lid. As with most L'Occitane products the packaging is pretty simple but the labelling is very 1930s and oozes French chic which does set it apart from other products. The pot is white in colour and is not transparent and neither is the lid. As with all the L'Occitane products the information about the item, ingredients list, contact information is both in English and in French. The pot is sealed with a foil seal underneath the lid so you can tell whether it has been tampered with or not.
As soon as I opened the lid and pealed back the foil seal you get an instant rose aroma and of course it is not a synthetic smell whatsoever it is a rich, fragrant smell which is incredibly authentic. Now despite being able to smell it as soon as I opened it, the aroma isn't pungent or in your face but it definitely is noticeable. The body cream itself is snow white in colour and has a soft gloss sheen to it when undisturbed. The consistency of the cream is thick to the touch with a velvety smoothness which is actually quite irresistible. My only concern with the consistency was if it is that thick will it absorb into the skin effectively and quickly.
I have used this body cream quite a few times now as once you use it you can't go back to anything else as it is just so wonderful. It is best applied to dry skin whether just out the bath or shower or when getting dressed or ready etc. I found out quite quickly that despite its thickness a little does go quite some considerable away. So therefore, if you apply a lot of it the chances are it won't absorb and sink in and you will be left with a greasy residue. However, apply it sparingly and it does absorb incredibly quickly and even though you can tell your skin is moisturised, it isn't a sticky or clammy feel it is lovely and soft and of course smooth.
As said above I have used this body cream regularly not only because it perfumes your skin with a gorgeous fresh rose fragrance but it helps keep it moisturised and is gentle enough to do it without irritating your skin (especially if like me you can have sensitive skin). I mainly noticed my dry skin on my legs but since using this cream it has helped considerably, obviously around the knee and ankle areas can be a bit harder to keep the skin nourished and hydrated but on the whole my skin looks a lot better which means that this cream does actually work effectively.
I'm incredibly pleased with this body cream, it is lovely and soft to use and it absorbs quickly into the skin meaning you can put your clothes on almost instantly as you don't have to wait for it to absorb. The aroma it leaves on your skin is gorgeous and it does linger for quite sometime but it isn't over powering. My skin looks a lot healthier and not as dry since using it but considering its full price of £16.00 it isn't a cream I can really justify buying frequently to use on a daily basis. I simply use it once or twice a week as a top up with other body creams/ lotions I use.
If this comes back into the sale I will definitely be buying it again to stock up and at a push I may buy one full price but at the moment I still have quite a lot left in my one pot. I would definitely recommend it to those that love a true rose fragrance which is soft and florally sweet or to those that just love L'Occitane. Definitely a recommendation from me and even better if you can get it at a reduced price! 5 stars from me.
