Disadvantages: takes a long time both at the appointment and waiting for the cycles of hair growth to come through

Having suffered for years with excessive hair growth on my legs - we're talking legs that look like a man's if left - I finally decided to take the plunge and go for laser hair removal. I had never been able to wear any kind of skirt apart from floor length because waxing, silk-epil and shaving never got rid of all the hairs. Waxing and silk epil caused ingrowing hairs and shaving lasted about 24 hours only!

It's not cheap. I am going with Harley Medical Group and it's costing me £2400 for full legs and extended bikini line. My first appointment was exactly 2 weeks ago and although (despite what they tell you) it does hurt and it takes about 2 hours to cover the whole area (more if you are a larger lady) since then I've had hardly any growth. I've shaved my legs once and all the hairs seem to be struggling to grow back and most of them are falling out. I've got a couple of lovely bald patches on legs and bikini area!

Of course I don't know how the hairs will grow back between now and my next appointment (6 weeks' time) but so far I'm thrilled and I don't think I'll ever see the yeti look on me ever again.

I'm so excited about my subsequent appointments (3 more for legs and 7 more for bikini) because i can see it's going to change my life :)

Finally, if you decide to do it make sure you shave your legs 2 days before the appointment - the nurse needs to see the hair but a long hair will just burn your leg. N.B., hope you can stand the smell of burning hair cos it stinks!

Summary: definitely worth it
