Advantages: Works well
Disadvantages: Can burn
Description
Listerine is an antibacterial mouthwash that is said to reduce plaque by up to 56% more than brushing alone. Used twice daily after brushing, it is clinically proven to prevent and reduce plaque, which is a major cause of gum disease, kill bacteria between teeth, and freshen breath. This is the original version which just means that it is unflavoured.
Pros
- It's easy to use, just pour a small amount (20ml is suggested) into a glass and use it to rinse around your teeth and gums, gargle, and spit it out after about 30 seconds.
- It doesn't taste too bad. I thought that an unflavoured version would taste really bad but it doesn't really taste of anything, it's just a slight alcohol taste.
- It really does give you fresh breath all day, so you can feel confident about getting close to people.
- It makes the whole of your mouth feel extra clean and fresh.
- It's fairly cheap. I got mine at Superdrug for £2.40 for a 500ml bottle.
Cons
- It can burn your mouth, especially if you rinse with it for 30 seconds as suggested as a time. I think the formula is just a bit too strong and for a lot of people it is very painful to use.
- The bottle can be hard to open. It has a safety cap by which you must squeeze the sides of the cap and turn it, but it can be very difficult to do so.
- It does not last long. If you go by the suggested 20ml then using it twice a day a 500ml bottle will only last for 12 ½ days!
Summary
This is an effective mouthwash for total fresh breath confidence and to know that you are doing the best to protect your teeth, but beware that it can burn your mouth and even a large bottle won't last long, making it not so good value for money after all.
Summary: A good mouthwash if you can handle the burning sensation
