Advantages: Great for exfoliating

Disadvantages: Sugar can get a bit hard

There is nothing better than to come home from work, run a nice hot bath, pour a glass of wine and let your work worries and strains just wash away. My bath would be a very odd place without anything Lush! I do quite alot of mailorder Lush, purely because I happen to work in a town where there is no Lush store (my nearest is now Taunton and then Exeter as I'm now living in Somerset) and most weekends I'm generally with the horses. On my monthly Lush order I discovered that Lush have brought out two brand new products!! A Sugar Babe and Sugar Babe which are new sugar scrubs made of a a mix of bicarb and cream of tartar plus moisturizing coconut oil which solidifies the product into a buttery bar. Perfect! I wil have one of each!

A Sugar Scrub was originally made from inspiration from Sir Alan Sugar (Lush was on The Apprentice a few weeks ago) but let me tell you he's not that happy about it! You don't want to cross Sir Alan Sugar or there'll be consequences. Aside from a proper tongue lashing via lawyers, Lush has used Sir Alan's face and name on their products and he's not happy about it. To be fair, Lush was used in one of the recent Apprentice episodes, so they saw this as an opportunity to capitalise. Sir Alan however, finds their actions offensive.

The advert for the two bath ball body exfoliators, Sugar Babe and A Sugar Scrub features a photo of Sir Alan's face on a woman's bum and the products are described as, "slightly abrasive but ultimately good for you." Sugar Scrub (the green product) also claims that it "stimulates activity where there was once sluggishness." What do you think of Lush pointedly making fun of Sir Alan as a marketing means? However, Lush have actually listened to the lawyers and have now renamed A Sugar Scrub to just Sugar Scrub. What a spoil sport Sir Alan!

When my order came I was really excited but curious at the same time about trying a solid sugar scrub! I opened my carefully Lush wrapped box and found both my sugar scrubs looking absolutely perfect. A Sugar Scrub came in a clear bag with the Lush label keeping it closed. The first sniff you gt quite a sweet herbal scent which is lovely. Th size of A Sugar is about half of a bath ballistic which I think it pretty good! When you first look at A Sugar it has a lovely emerald green colour and actually reminds me of one of those crystalised sugar sticks that you use to stir coffee! You can clearly see the individual sugar crystals which are all tightly compacted.

So the time came, I ran my bath and instead of using a Lush product I actually used a Simple bath cream because I didn't want a fragrance in my bath as I wanted to smell what A Sugar actually smelt like!

As soon as your in the bath and your skin has softened this is the best time to use this little scrub. There is no point trying to apply it to dryer skin as it can be quite harsh. As soon as A Sugar touches the water it starts dissolving. These sugar scrubs are relatively easy to use! No need to bath pouffs or flanels, just apply direct on the skin and scrub away! Don't go over the top with the scrubbing, just exfoliate gently all over your skin. After my relaxing bath my skin felt really smooth and soft. A Sugar is also great for the feet if you don't like using a pumice stone (which I don't!). You will be left with smooth, dead cell free skin which smells lovely. Fortunately the scent stays with you for the rest of the night which is really relaxing.

I couldn't believe how great my skin felt after use of A Sugar, soft and smooth. I couldn't ask for more really. Just make sure when you have finished using it that you store it away from water as the sugar will dissolve to a mush!

A Sugar is a wonderful fragrant blend of ginger, lavender oil and fennel oil which creates the lovely herbal yet sweet fragrance. Lush manage time after time to produce fragrances which really compliment eachother. Fennel oil is a detoxifying oil which is said to improve circulation and help combat cellulite which is what Lush wanted for this bar. Ginger as we all know is used for nausea but I dont think Lush used it for that reason in this sugar scrub! Ginger is known (and has been for years and years) as a great detoxifier, which is ideal for the skin. And lastly Lavender, one of my favourites! It is a calming, relaxing oil, which combats stress and crisis, while the antiseptic properties helps with cold, flu and other ailments. And did you know (and this is a fact but maybe a little useless!) The name "lavender" is derived from the Latin word 'lavera' which means 'to wash' and historically it was used by the Romans in their bath routine. Well Lush I think you hav definately out done yourself this time!!

What Lush say:-

Our Sugar Scrub is hard, but a bit of a sweetie. It stands for no nonsense as it stimulates activity where there was once sluggishness, and it tackles cellulite with fennel and ginger. Skin calming lavender has a balancing effect. Get yourself wet in the shower or bath but don't let the bar get under the running water or it's lost before it's has a chance to prove itself, scrub and rinse. It doesn't waste any time getting down to business and getting the job done. (Patent Pending)

A Sugar costs £2.50 per bar which I think is a great price. The bar has lastest me for a few baths which I didn't think was bad at all.

Summary: A new idea to exfoliation!
