Advantages: Smells gorgeous
Disadvantages: None
A lot of us pride ourselves on finding nice bubble baths and oils to put in our bath water. Although it’s important to me that my bath smells nice and I do like things a bit different to the norm, I also really like soaps that not only clean my skin, but look different and smell heavenly I find Dove and Lux nice but well…………………boring.
I’m working my way through the Lush soaps at the moment and the company do a large range of soaps that are all that little bit different. Step into a Lush shop and your nose will be accosted with a mixture of smells, some fruity and some floral. The shops can be a little overpowering for some people unless you love strong scents and then you’ll feel it’s your birthday and you’ve gone to heaven!
On my last visit to the Lush store I was specifically looking for soaps and fancied something fruity. The soaps are stacked so high in the shop that they look in danger of toppling over, although you can have a piece sliced from the huge chunks that are present on counters scattered around the shop.
In the centre of the shop was a large dark yellow slab, covered in flecks of brown that beckoned me over to investigate it further. As I approached the slab a rich smell of banana pulled me ever closer and I was smitten. Lush state that only the freshest bananas are mashed and used to make Banana Moon, which of course explains its authentic aroma and I could almost believe I was on a tropical island sitting beneath a banana tree such was the glorious aroma that surrounded the slab.
Banana Moon can be purchased via www.lush.co.uk in two sizes. The larger size retails at £3.60 for 200g or if you feel that’s a bit extortionate for a bit of soap there is the smaller 100g size which costs £1.80. After you’ve tried this and you’ve decided that it’s the soap of your dreams you can of course visit one of the many Lush stores around the country, and purchase a slab cut to the size of your choice if you like big bananas! The soap promises to leave your skin smelling like a fresh banana and the presence of natural yogurt in the ingredients will cleanse and tone as well as clean the skin as well as any other soap.
Banana Moon is cut from a cylindrical slab so that each portion is kind of a flat circular shape and has a perfectly polished appearance so unlike a lot of Lush’s exfoliating soaps, this one is smooth and gentle on the skin. The smell of bananas is glorious though, and if the bar were not so firm to the touch I could quite easily imagine I had a ripe banana in my hand and try to eat it. Although there is a slightly soapy smell, the predominant scent is of fruit and is quite simply, tropical.
When Banana Moon is rubbed across the skin, a river of yellow droplets drip from the limbs when the soap comes into contact with the water. This river soon forms a rich creamy lather rather than a bubble covering, and within a few seconds the skin begins to feel moisturized and soft. The banana aroma intensifies as the soap is rubbed onto the skin and as it is quite strong it won’t be long before your bathroom is filled with the smell of yellow fruit as the soap combines with the steam from the bath. All you really need is a bit of ice cream and whipped cream and you could have a banana split while you’re languishing in the bath water – it really does smell that good.
Banana Moon is gentle and as it has no angular edges the smooth rounded block caresses the skin as it is washed. It cleans as well as any other soap I have tried but added to its great cleansing properties there is of course the smell. I know I keep coming back to it, but I really have never smelled anything quite so authentic. After alighting from my banana bath my skin has a deliciously fragrant aroma and after drying myself my body feels soft, moisturised and of course I’m feeling fruity! The smell lasts for ages too and I quite often catch a whiff of banana hours after using it.
I would recommend Banana Moon as a treat for young children who love the smell or taste of bananas, or anyone you know who is a lover of strong fruity scents. Lush now do a bubble bar called Little Monkey which would make a nice partner for the soap although if they are both used together Banana Moon would kill any bubbles from the bar. All that I need to persuade Lush to do now is to create a perfume to go with it………………………
Banana Moon has been a huge hit in our house. Not only do I love it to bits, but my little monkeys do too and since discovering it last month I’ve already purchased our second bar! Compare the price of a 200g bar of Banana Moon with the same sized Dove Bar in Boots and this little monkey is £2.70 dearer but I’d gladly pay out that bit extra for a big banana in my bath.
