Advantages: Keeps skin soft and dry

Disadvantages: Not available at Lush anymore

I'm a huge fan of dusting powders and of course Lush's range (however I have noticed a few other companies now making this lovely little product) and I have been using their quite impressive range for a number of years now. Like most women I'm always on the hunt for something better and I was in need of something to take on holiday with me, especially for the evenings when going somewhere hot can get a bit muggy and humid. After receiving my Lush Times a few years ago there was an article on Bare Naked Ladies (named after the band) and the fact that it contained fairy dust (good old glitter to you and me!) and thought this would be a great powder to use especially on an evening when sat in a bar or in a club where you want to feel the sparkle!

Bare Naked Lady is a fine textured powder containing equally fine, subtle glints of golden dust, all of which offer a sateen finish to the skin while enveloping you in the romantic scent of roses, not too overpowering, not too subtle, just right. However, even though I'm all for an elegant, subtle sheen and not so much for looking like a disco ball, the paltry amount of glitter in Bare Naked Lady is simply disappointing even from a minimalist's point of view. Now don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting to be covered from head to toe in the stuff but enough covering to be actually visible to the naked eye!

Additionally, you must (not optional!) apply this powder with a large brush. If you don't, and you simply dump the powder from the ridiculously oversized holes on the lid into your hand and smooth it on, you'll have glitter and powder caked to both hands and floor in a heaping, chalky white and gold mess. And you'll need to work at blending this powder into the skin to avoid lasting, caked-on white streaks, especially on areas of the body where the skin is a bit drier.

The catch-22 situation is that blending this powder in as much as is necessary usually takes away what little glitter you had working in your favour. To make matters worse, you really can't take this powder with you for touch-ups (so unfortunately it sat in my hotel whilst I went out and had a good night!). The poor design of the pot leads to constant leakage, and though you could tape it shut after every use or re-pot it into a container of your own, but think about it: should you really have to? Unfortunately this is a floor for all the dusting powers and I would really hope Lush change these pots to something which actually works!!

Try this: hold your closed Bare Naked Lady pot over a bin, and move it very gently in an up and down motion. A light sprinkle of powder consistently escapes in a snow falling fashion. You could do this for an hour, and it wouldn't stop. Now imagine carrying that pot in a bag, where it

will inevitably get tossed around in all directions, sans any amount of gentleness. Never mind when the entire ill-fitted yellow lid occasionally pops out of the cardboard container in your luggage, which is always a treat, let me tell you.)

My method with this dusting powder is to always have a large powder or blusher brush to use and over a sink shake the tub lightly until you start to see the powder appear and keep going slowly. If you go any faster you will end up getting most of it everywhere but the brush. Once on the brush slowly work it over your arms, legs, and chest - anywhere you want it! Don't try to over apply as this will lead to it not staying put on your skin.

Despite Bare Naked Ladies awful container and the lack of glitter the fact that the scent is so lovely and light makes you buy this item again and again! Throughout my holiday I was sticky-free and it kept me cool and dry which I was initially after! The added glitter would have been a bonus. Unfortunately Lush decided to discontinue this item and whether it comes back as a retro item is a mystery. It is however, still available on EBay and only yesterday I bid on a tub! I think when it was available it cost just under £6.00 and lasted me quite a few months.

Summary: Ideal for those hot, humid days

Any product with the words "Bare, Naked and Lady" should be of interest to me, but perhaps not this one. lol.
