Advantages: Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth, Smells lovely
Disadvantages: You can only use it once
My husband was working away in Scotland last week so I thought I'd make the most of the opportunity to hog the bathroom and pamper myself. I made a special trip to my local Lush store and set about looking at all the wonderful bath products that were available. Last weekend when I'd visited I purchased a Creamy Candy Bubble Bar to try - I was so impressed with it that I had initially only planned to stock up on a couple more of these, however on the way over I spotted the bath ballistics, (bath bombs), I have read lots of reviews about them but had never used one before so I decided that try one for a change. Lush Bath Ballistics are available in a variety of fragrances including the following. Florabundance which contains lavender and geranium essentials oils for a calming bath time treat. Fizzy O'Therapy which contains ginger and mustard powder to help relieve aching muscles. Summer Blues which states it has been created "especially for those people whose summer lasts about 4.5 days when most of summer is spent wearing woolly jumpers and wondering when it will stop raining." This product contains rose, orange flower and jasmine which are used to make you feel happy and for their calming properties. Titsy Tosty - this product is heart shaped and is scented with roses and orris root, it contains 7 real rosebuds. Ickle Baby Baff which is actually made with children in mind, it contains lavender, chamomile and sandalwood which are used to soothe and help promote sleep. Waving Not Drowning which again contains lavender essential oil and is designed to help you nod off and get a good nights sleep. Softy, this product is pink and contains rose petals, it is fragranced with ylang ylang, orange flowers and rose which help to soften the bath water. Street Party - this version was launched to help celebrate the Queens Golden Jubilee. The product contains glitter
and streamers - great to use before a night out as it will leave you covered in lots of particles of glitter so you can sparkle all night long. Big Blue which contains Japanese seaweed, lemon and lavender essential oils designed to help you unwind after a stressful day. Uluru which contains lemon myrtle and desert rosewood which are said to relieve stress. Fairy Jasmine - like the Street Party this product contains glitter and will cover you in glitter and leave you feeling like a princess, it is fragranced with ylang, ylang and jasmine and smells gorgeous. World Peace - this bath bomb is coloured green and blue and resembles a globe. It contains pine and peppermint which when coupled together help to create a calm and soothing bath. The Sicilian which contains the following essential oils, orange, tangerine, bergamont and mandarin, these oils are used to promote a refreshing smell, improve skin tone and ease tension. Last but not least Butterball which is the bath ballistic that I purchased and is the subject of this opinion. Initially I wanted to purchase the Fairy Jasmine but was advised by the assistant that I would get covered in glitter and it would not be advisable to use if I had to go to work the next day - as I did I decided to take the more sensible approach and after a short discussion about my skin type and likes and dislikes I was advised to try the Butterball Bath Ballistic. The Butterball is actually smaller than most of the other bath bombs and costs a bit less too, (I was impressed to note that the assistant hadn't just tried to sell me the most expensive and had genuinely recommended what she felt was most suited to me even though it was one of the cheapest products available in the range). The Butterball is an ivory/white colour which is speckled with yellow flecks, the yellow flecks being, Cocoa Butter, the product is fragranced using Citric Acid, Musk a
nd Yl ang Ylang oil and is designed to help moisturise the skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth. As my skin is quite dry, especially on my elbows I decided to opt for this variety to see what it could do for me. I put my son to bed and set about creating the right atmosphere for a relaxing bath, strategically placing candles around the bathroom to create the right ambiance for the occasion and pouring a glass of wine to enjoy whilst luxuriating in the bath. The product is sold loosely but the assistant placed it in a bag and attached a label which gave instructions on how to use it. You are advised to run a bath and then drop the bath ballistic into it. Immediately I dropped the bath ballistic into the bath it whizzed about with joy, letting off a hissing noise and quickly disintegrating to leave a pleasant aroma and yellow oily patches on the surface of the water. My initial thought was that the bath water almost looked dirty as a result of the yellow oily patches and I wasn't that keen to get in, however, having set the scene for a relaxing evening and having read rave reviews about Lush products I decided that it couldn't be that bad or nobody else would use it and keep going back for more so I got in. The yellow oily patches were created by the cocoa butter which lays on the surface until you get into the bath when it then soaks into your body. Immediately I stepped into the bath I could feel an almost greasy feeling on my skin, this was the cocoa butter clinging to my skin, beginning to start the moisturisation process. I washed as normal and by the time I was ready to get out of the bath some 30 minutes later all the cocoa butter patches has disappeared and the water was clear. As I stepped out of the bath I was aware that my skin felt slightly slimy and greasy, but I decided that this was probably a good sign as it proved that the product was doing it's job by slowly seepi
ng through the skin. My skin felt tacky for an hour or so after I got out of the bath but this wasn't an unpleasant feeling. I could still smell the scent of the product on my skin a couple of hours later before going to bed. I woke up the next morning and my skin definitely felt smoother and softer - I still have dry patches on my elbows but they are not sore like they were and they are also much softer. The bath ballistics range in price and size and prices start from 95p for the Ickle Baby Baff to £2.25 for the Tisty Tosty. The Butterball costs £1.40 GBP for 95g, this may seem expensive to some as it only lasts for one bath but unlike many other bath bombs which only fragrance the water and are mainly used for a novelty effect the Butterball and all other Lush Bath Ballistics are designed to moisturise, calm and promote a better well-being and I think that £1.40 to help improve the condition of my skin is not expensive. I would highly recommend this product if you are either just looking for a little luxury or to help moisturise dry skin. Because of my dry skin I often find that a lot of bath products aggrevate my skin but this product did not irritate or aggrevate it at all. Lush products are not tested on animals and the Butterball is suitable for use by vegetarians and vegans. Thank you for reading. Julie

- 22/09/02 Ah, yes, those Butterball ballistics do leave your skin feeling lovely and soft. Make sure you do try the Fairy Jasmine (when you don't have to go to work the next day). It's definitely the best one they make! |
