Advantages: Gorgeous smell
Disadvantages: Slippery when wet
My eight year old son and I were walking down the road last weekend when he gave me that look. You know the one where they'll either ask where babies come from or will tell you that they have broken the DVD player! Well this time I got 'Mum do you think I should get the Lynx effect' Trying desperately to keep a straight face he explained that as he was growing up Matey bubble bath just didn't cut it any more! He now needed 'man' shower gel and deodorant! Apparently there is a certain girl at school he has his eye on! I thought maybe Lynx was pushing it so we ventured into Lush to see if anything took his fancy. I thought he might shrug it off as too girly too but the shower jellies were 'totally awesome' apparently!
Lush Big Calm Shower Jelly contains coconut and pineapple infusions and seaweed to give an amazing tropical smell. The most obvious smell is the coconut which is really natural and fresh. Oliver did smell a few of the other jellies but he liked the fruity smell of this one. Certainly not too girly! When you see it in the shop it is in a huge slab which they slice bits off and put in boxes. Our slice cost £3.44 it costs £2.15 per 100g. It is a cloudy blue and white oblong that looks like a bar of rowntrees jelly before you add the water without the squares. Obviously being blue was a big plus. I usually pick a cm squared piece off for him before he goes in the bath or shower or he'll end up melting the whole bar but he seems to be able to handle it ok without it flotaing away! I had a sneaky try of it yesterday and I was impressed I stuck a piece deep into a shower puff and it made me feel really clean and lathered up nicely. Oliver uses it for his hair too and whilst I wouldn't use it in my hair it seems fine for his very short hair. His skin was soft after using it and he smelt nicer than before he got in the shower which trust me is a bonus!
I expect our chunck of jelly will last around 2 months with showers every other day, he only uses a little bit, so I don't mind spending that lilttle bit extra on him.
Interestingly you can chill, freeze or use this at room temperature, I'm not convinced its warm enough to cool it just yet but that sounds great for summer! Apparently they don't freeze solid and last longer like that.
The company is against animal testing and uses as many natural ingredients as they can with as little preservatives as possible. All products are made by hand by them, they print their own labels and make their own fragrances.
You can buy these from any Lush store, which as usual is a pleasure to shop in. The assistants are helpful and the smell is divine. My 4 year old daughter came with us in the shop and they gave her a little sample of a bath melt which she was thrilled with! If there are no stores near you, you can also order from their website. www.lush.co.uk
Does it give Oliver the Lynx effect? I seriously hope not but he seems very proud of his new stash of toiletries he is building up and if it gets him to wash himself once in a while then its gets a thumbs up from me!
