Advantages: Gives a great relaxing bath
Disadvantages: None!
If you have read my other reviews on bath ballistics you will know that I am not the biggest fan of them, despite being an all time fan of Lush even I cannot bring myself to love them! However (and it's a big however!) a few months ago I wondered into the Lush store in Exeter and put my usual goodies in the little wicker baskets and started to ponder over ballistics! I looked at all the shelves, the ones which after confetti stuffed in them, the glitter filled, the flower filled and the plain. I decided to try, to take a big step! I opted for Blackberry bath ballistic, purely because it was plain looking but pretty and I love blackberries! I did actually expect to hate Blackberry. I figured it would be yet another Lushh ballistic that was greatly hyped but did not live up to expectations. Since I had such low ones for Blackberry, it was nice to have them surpassed!
At the counter the sales assistant explained to me that Blackberry was the first bath bomb ever made by Lush, back in the early 90s when they were a mail order company called Cosmetics To Go. I couldn't beleive that I hadn't really noticed this ballistic before and considering it has been around for so long I felt ashamed at being a Lushette! She then went on to explain that Blackberry is one of Lush's best selling ballistics. Surely then I was onto a winner!
Blackberry is quite a plain looking ballistic, it is uncharacteristic for Lush, it's not a bright neon colour which has just had a whol load of glitter tipped onto it! It's quite boring actually! A mixture of shades are found on the shelf, from lilacs to deep hues of purple. It has "BOMB" engraved onto it which unfortunately does not come out clear on all ballistics. However apart from it's plain appearance when you first smell this ballistic you get a lovely scent of sweet fruit, it's not overpowering unlike Sex Bomb.
When this bath bomb hits the water, it releases the richest, most playful purple hue known to all of bathing mankind, with the scent of fizzy grape (or, er...blackberry) kinda like Welchs Purple Grace Juice which to me is lovely! However, those who are expecting a fruity bath going by the name alone (shame on you, you should know better than to expect the expected from Lush scents by now!) might be disappointed; once it's dissolved (which it does as soon as it hits the hot water!), the sumptuously sweet notes (primarily Lush's secret perfume working in sync with frankincense) of this bath tend to fade to the background while a fruity, floral fragrance (primarily owed to bergamot, coming from the peel of Seville oranges) replaces it.
This isn't an altogether bad thing, of course, as this mutated scent is hardly displeasing! But one gets the feeling this mood-lifting, anti- depressant bath would be an even more lifting experience if all notes were permitted to sing in unison the entire time. This beautiful scent fills the whole of your bathroom and while you are submerged in purple water your mind does feel weightless and any worries you had in the day will soon vanish.
This bath ballistic is topped with the word "BOMB" (as I said before!) and releases a little sateen message tag that reads "Boom Boom!" I've seen others opine that this is rather silly or trite, but remember: Blackberry represents the birth of the bath bomb on planet Earth, and these gestures are meant to pay a fun tribute to that fact. Besides, the whole idea of Lush's calling these exploding balls of bath salts "Bath Bombs" in the first place was pretty dang witty!! So I can forgive this ballistic for this little note, at the end of the day without Lush where would we be?! (However I'm sure another company would of thought of bath ballistics at some times!! But shhh!)
Blackberry dissolves instantly which is great and the good news is, is that it doesn't leave a trail of salt on the bottom of the tub! And even better news is that you won't have to worry about purple staining around the bath, blackberry doesn't stain, but it is always safe to keeply rinse your bath anyway! Blackberry isn't moisturising in the slightest, but then ballistics are not supposed to be really, but it certainly doesn't dry out the skin either. However, the sweet floral scent lingers on your skin for hours, fortunately this is quite a fresh scent so is perfect for day or night. Because Blackberry is quite a large ballistic, it's best to have it in two halves, as I think one whole ballistic would be far too much for your average bath tub. However splitting it into two halves, you won't get your suprise little paper message rise up out the water and greet you!!
I have said in a few other reviews about my liking for cocktailing and Blackberry is no exception! My personal recommendation would be to "cocktail" it with the pink Comforter Bubble Bar, which gives it a lovely sweet fruity fragrance and the water becomes alot softer as your using a bubble bar.
What Lush says:-
With bergamot, frankincense & berries for uplifting, grounding, fruity feelings.
When you're feeling off colour and out of sorts, drop this Bomb of purply goodness into the bath. In no time at all, the frisky scent of blackcurrant will tug at the corners of your mouth, pulling them towards your ears. Bergamot relieves tension and frankincense will wrap itself around you like a cosy security blanket. It's like hopping on the fast train to a parallel universe where all your cares have dissolved into the mists of time.
Blackberry will cost you £2.50 and I think this is a great price for such a large ballistic, especially as it's not stuffed with any problematic items other than it's little suprise note! I suggest that people should get a few of these and stock up as no matter what time or day it is, these ballistics are perfect!
Summary: No wonder this is one of Lush's best sellers!
