Advantages: cooling, soothing and detoxing (and affordable ! )

Disadvantages: its a funny green colour

Yes I know, I know. You cant possibly bear yet another Lush review, but hang on a sec, give this one a chance...

Like a lot of people, I suffer a lot from the heat in the summer (surprising though it is, living in sunny sunny England!) as I am allergic to grass pollen which brings me out in a nasty itchy rash on my arms and neck.

I spent years using prescribed creams, but with no luck. Then my grandma (a qualified aromatherapist and reflexologist) told me about the soothing qualities of olive oil and presented me with a small block of Greek soap which worked fantastically. However, if you dont want to go all the way to Greece for your soap, there is another way...

Lush's soap Extra Virgin Olive is not the prettiest of soaps. Being bright green in colour and slightly translucent with pieces of fennel and olive leaf, it may not be your first choice of soap. It doesnt have a distinct fragrance, however, it ha s a simple, fresh smell that leaves you feeling clean and refreshed.

EVO is packed with skin-loving goodies like olives, olive oil, grapefruit, pepper and fennel, all known for their detoxifying natures, so this a real deep-cleansing treat for your body, as well as providing it with loads of nutrients. Apparently it is also excellent for combatting cellulite which is never a bad thing, is it girls? I personally have not tried it for long enough to comment on this, but I'm willing to give it a go!

As well as all of these qualities, EVO also acts as a cooling and soothing treatment for skin flare-ups. I keep a piece in my bag at all times, just in case my eczema rears its ugly head. Its so easy to use, just wet the necessary body part, rub the soap on directly and rinse off. Done. This is particularly refreshing with cold water. EVO cools my rash down instantly, reducing the itching. It also works to reduce the redness and blotchyness of the rash itself. This takes minutes, if that. Its not messy at all, so can be used in public toilets etc etc, which is an advantage that it holds over prescribed creams. I found that other olive oil soaps dried out my skin, but EVO is softening and conditioning, leaving my skin feeling revitalised and smooth.

EVO is the least expensive of Lush's soaps at £1.95 for 100g. This is a fairly sizeable block, mine has lasted me for a few months now and I still have loads left. It is also cheaper than other olive oil soaps found in health food stores (and it smells nicer.)

So would I buy it again? Definately (its great when you've got a medical excuse to buy yourself goodies!) Its simple, gentle and good for your skin. I would recommend it to anyone with an irritating skin condition, or anyone who wants a soap that will do its job without smelling of sweets or covering the bathroom in sparkles!

Summary: a gentle, soothing and nutritious treat for your skin. what else could you want?

I love Lush soaps but haven't tried this one yet.
