Advantages: smells quite nice, silky feel to the water when used

Disadvantages: irritated my sensitive skin, nothing special

When Lush's Geo Phyzz ballistic was launched around a year ago, it was never one that really appealed to me. Although I liked it's promises of providing a spa bath, the appearance of it put me off. Although it looked OK in website pictures, when I actually saw it in store it appeared to be an awful mottled brown colour. As Lush products are handmade their appearances can be different with each batch, so perhaps my local store was just unlucky to get such an awful looking set!

It was only recently that I started thinking about giving this ballistic a try. I'd read quite a lot about the fact it is full of minerals and is supposedly detoxifying, and I ended up picking one up on my last Lush visit.

The ballistic is fairly large and is a pale green colour with lots of brown specks giving it a sort of mottled appearance. As I said, appearances can vary batch to batch but the one I bought had a pleasant, although not particularly special appearance.

If you have ever been in a Lush store, you will know that the mixture of scents can often be quite overpowering, and I must admit, even though I tried sniffing this in the shop, because it's not the strongest scented ballistic ever, I had no idea what it smelled like until I got home away from all the strong scents! I'd read quite a few negative things about the scent of this on the Lush forum - one comment describing it as smelling of wee! I must admit, I didn't think that at all -in fact I quite like it.

The smell is quite gentle and very unusual. It's a slightly herbal, almost woody scent, and its quite a unisex fragrance, that I think would be more than suitable for men and women. The product contains cypress oil, sandalwood oil and pine absolute amongst other things, so that may give you a little bit of an idea as to the way it smells.

To use this, you simply put it into a bath full of water where it will dissolve releasing all the skin softening essential oils as well as the sea salt and Hawaiian sea salt (the little brown bits).

When I put this into the bath, the first thing I noticed was that it fell to the bottom with a thud. Normally I find the ballistics stay near to the surface so this was a little odd. It fizzed quite slowly and as it did, I found that lumps of sea salt and the brown Hawaiian sea salt all fell to the bottom of the bath making it feel quite gritty and uncomfortable. Obviously this didn't last very long as the salts eventually dissolved.

The water turned a murky green colour and I could feel a change in the water as it started to feel silky. The smell also changed a little once in the water and started to smell a little more 'oceany' - probably due to the fact it contains seaweed absolute. The aroma was quite noticeable throughout the entire duration of the bath too which was good.

One thing it's worth noting is that this thing stains the bath quite badly. It left a greeny brown ring around the top of the bath and the bottom had a pinkish brown stain where the Hawaiian sea salt had dissolved and settled. It did come off easily with some standard bathroom cleaning spray, but still, it's something to be aware of.

After my bath my skin felt soft and smooth and was not dried out. Unfortunately the scent did not linger on my skin which was a shame. Another thing I think is worth noting, would be that I have quite sensitive skin and have a few patches of eczema. When I used this, I found that it seemed to make my eczema feel very uncomfortable, irritated and itchy - not something I have found with any other Lush product.

A Geo Phyzz ballistic costs £3.08 from Lush. That is fairly pricey for one bath, although you could try breaking it up to get more uses from it.

Overall, I found this to be a very mediocre ballistic. It smelled quite nice, but in all other ways it was simply very normal, and nothing about it stood out. I don't think I'd buy it again, but if you're a Lush fan (and you don't have sensitive skin) then it may be worth a try.

Summary: An OK ballistic

My problem with the coloured bath bombs is the fact that you have to scrub the bath afterwards, really caps off that relaxing experience!

I can't stand bath bombs. Not a huge fan of baths myself, would always choose a shower over a bath lol. Thes just make baths uncomfortable. Brill review. KIrsty
