Advantages: Smells lovely

Disadvantages: Not readily available apart from at the website

I’m never happy. Despite my bathroom being full of potions, lotions and every conceivable item of soap and bath products, I am always on the prowl for something new to tempt me into parting with some hard earned cash. I was on my weekly visit to the Lush website recently when I espied a soap that I had never clapped my eyes on before, either online or in the shops, and amazingly enough it was in the special offer section. Welllllll, it was a chance not to be missed and probably wouldn’t be repeated so I popped it into my virtual basket and settled back to wait for my next box of goodies to be delivered. The Golden Moon can be purchased for £2.95 but Lush are offering two bars for £5.00 or three bars for £6.75 at the moment.

I think I can speak for most of us girlies when I say that although I love sweet smelling soaps that are a little out of the ordinary, I also like them to look appealing and of course they need to be functional as well. There’s no point having a lovely looking soap that doesn’t get rid of any dirt or grime is there? If novelty soaps are your bag, then you will instantly fall in love with the Golden Moon. The soap is shaped into a crescent and has a smiley moon face embedded onto it. When I received it in the post I was quite surprised how large it was as for some reason I expected the bar to be small, but no, the Golden Moon is big, in fact much larger than my hand.

There is not much description on the website apart from a bit of blurb about the soap containing orange and tangerine oil, and even more strange, is that the soap is not included in the soap section, only on the special offers, so really the Golden Moon was a bit of a gamble to buy, knowing so little about it before letting it come into my bath with me.

Unwrapping the Golden Moon from its coverings is a delight. A glimmering gold crescent gleams in the light, and the surface of the bar, which is covered in glitter, sparkles and twinkles. A sweet, yet somewhat sharp smell of oranges fills the air, but there are other subtle undertones to the bar, which are floral in nature. A faint hint of jasmine and rose mingle with the zesty citrus smells creating a really pleasant aroma.

Due to the shape of the bar, you might wonder how easy Golden Moon to handle in the bath. Because of its crescent shape, it is easy to hold in the palm of the hand as the fingers tend to nestle at either side of the nose, which sticks out of the bar and the curved sides are ideal to grip and hold the bar tightly.

When using Golden Moon for the first time, you will notice that there is a thick layer of gold sparkles on the surface of the bar that coat the skin in a golden creamy lather. Like tiny pieces of glitter they float on the surface of the bath water, and give off a glorious orange aroma. The lather from Golden Moon is a pale lemon in colouring, and has a rich, luxurious feel to it, which makes it glide across the skin, almost caressing it. The fruity smell intensifies when using the bar, and almost overshadows any floral tones, but occasionally the flowery aromas peep through giving a whole new smellsation to the bathroom! When I used the soap for the first time I was quite disappointed the top layer of sparkles all came off, but I can assure you that there are plenty more left in the soap, in fact they can be seen under the surface, scattered throughout the crescent. Every time you rub the creamy Golden Moon over your skin, a few of the glittery pieces escape, although not with as much gusto as the first application, which was a little too much, even for me. However, Golden Moon not only cleans as well as, if not better than normal brands, but because of its rich lather, there is no need to use huge amounts of it at one time.

Golden Moon makes my skin feel smooth and the presences of the citrus oils give me a revitalised feeling so that it tingles after towel drying. I would class Golden Moon as a ‘wake up’ soap, rather than a ‘wind down’ one, yet because of the presence of the sparkly pieces, I really only use this if I am off out for the evening, as the glitter does tend to stay on the skin, and although not ‘in your face’ the skin does have a sparkly appearance.

I’ve had my bar of Golden Moon for over a month now, and really you wouldn’t really know it’s been used although I’ve used it a good few times. The facial features are all still obvious on the bar, and it still has a gorgeous citrus aroma, which is evident without pressing your nose to it and can be smelled on entering the bathroom.

Of course, I am going to recommend another Lush product that Golden Moon can be used in conjunction with, to give that ultimate zesty feeling and this is the Karma Bath Ballistic, which also has a citrus aroma and compliments the Golden Moon rather well.

Although Golden Moon is not an everyday soap, I would thoroughly recommend it for those special evenings, when you want to have a bit of pampering, or for younger people who just like a bit of sparkle after having a bath.

I've not seen this in any of the Lush stores yet, so it's best to order it from the website otherwise you may be disappointed when visiting your local store.

The smell sounds nice but I don't like any kind of sparkle after a bath.
