Advantages: Smells quite nice but mild, helps induce sleep, cheaper than other bath bombs, suitable for children
Disadvantages: Could be a more exciting colour or could have something fun inside it
After my little one was truly amazed by my Butterfly Ball bomb, I promised I'd get her a bath bomb next time we were in Lush. Being that money doesn't grow on trees (but most of the Lush ingredients do) the one I had in mind was Ickle Baby Baff, being that it's the cheapest at only £1. Okay, okay, I know that's pretty tight, splashing out on the Butterfly Ball for myself, but only spending £1 on her but my reasoning was that she just sits in the bath and plays with her toys and would be fine really in a bit of bubble bath whereas I truly use my baths to relax and spend forever in them. Even after saying it, I still feel like I was being tight.
What made this even worse was the following conversation:
(In Lush I pick up Ickle Baby Baff)
Me: How about this one instead? (trying to get her attention away from Think Pink)
Daughter (looking slightly disappointed): Oh, okay...What's in it?
Me (thinking she means what essential oils, yes seriously thinking a three year old was asking what essential oils were in the bath bomb): I'm not sure, I'll check when we get home, the fella's waiting best be quick.
Cue several "what's in it mum?" questions throughout the whole day and the following morning, with the same response of "I'm not sure yet, I'll check when I get chance".
Then just before the bath:
Daughter: Mum, what's in that bath bomb?
It suddenly dawns on me she thinks there is something inside it, like the flowers and butterflies that emerged from my Butterfly Ball. There is a small wait while I suddenly wonder how I'm ever going to break this news to her, and when I do her shock and distress is so intense that I have to immediately promise to buy her loads of good bath bombs on her birthday.
So onto the bath and after the initial disappointment my daughter still very much loved having a bath bomb of any sort. I let her drop it in herself while she was sat in the bath and she had great delight in watching it fizz around and constantly catching it and picking it out of the water and watching it fizz.
The water was left very soft and so silky, more so than with any bath bomb I have used, but without being greasy or slippery so was still perfectly safe for her without me worrying about her slipping.
The smell was mild but actually nice. When I had read on the website that it had lavender in, I wasn't sure it would smell very nice as I'm not a big lavender fan, and the Waving Not Drowning bath bomb smells absolutely disgusting. The main ingredient here is Lavender, but it wasn't over powering, and the over all smell was quite nice, although nothing spectacular or overly strong.
Lavender Oil can heal the skin, to the extent it has been called "first aid in a bottle", which is perfect for it's use on little ones, who seem to get bumps and scrapes all the time - especially if you have one like mine, who mid walk home from nursery, dramatically throws herself on the floor and exclaims "I've fallen over", all so she can have a Disney Princess plaster! The scent is very calming and relaxing so great for calming down the little ones at the end of a busy day. It also apparently helps irritability, so expect no tantrums after this bath!
It also has Sandalwood Oil which is relaxing, calming and harmonizing. It reduces tension and confusion which is great for easing those young minds that have so much to take in and learn every day, and often have a head literally buzzing with new things at the end of each day. It's also great for easing exhaustion, which is another problem, as all you mums will have experienced your little ones being "over-tired". It's good for sore throats, dry coughs, bronchitis and asthma. This is a major plus point if your child has troubles with their breathing, or a persistent night time coughs. At one point my daughter had a cough that only came about at night, but lasted for absolutely months, until we got an inhaler for her, and this could have greatly helped the condition. It also is good for bladder and urinary tract infections, which can be quite common in children. It relieves dehydrated skin, helps prevent scars and is great for eczema which again can be quite common in children.
Finally it has Chamomile Oil which is very calming and soothes the nerves and is a sleep aid which is great for treating insomnia, meaning it will be great for sending the little ones off to sleep. It's also anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and great for soothing irritated skin such as skin suffering from dermatitis or eczema and is suitable for sensitive skins.
It also has the bath bomb staple of Citric Acid and Sodium Bicarbonate which gives the bath its fizzing action and softens the water.
The list of ingredient isn't a long one but the ingredients are perfect for calming and soothing children before bed time. What is also note worthy is what ISN'T in it, in that there are no harsh chemicals which is just perfect for the sensitive skins of little children.
Whilst there is nothing to essentially stop someone older using this bath bomb, I don't feel it would be suitable as it is very small and if it was dissolved into a full bath would probably be much to weak, whereas it's just the right amount for a shallow children's bath.
I wasn't really too sure that this was going to have the magic sleep inducing effect whilst my daughter was in it as she happily and energetically played none stop throughout the time and wanted to stay in a long time. That said, soon after getting out of the bath she was zonked out into a deep sleep, so miracles can happen!
All in all it was a good bath bomb for children in it's sleep inducing effects, price, size and scent but I do feel that they could perhaps make too versions; this simple one with no added extras and no colouring for babies, and one that is similar ingredients but a more exciting colour, perhaps with some gimmicky things such as butterflies etc to be released from it. This would have been perfect if it had turned the bath pink and released something exciting from its centre. That said both me and my daughter were both still over all very happy with it.
At £1 per bomb, therefore per bath, it is quite expensive but if you're children give you sleepless nights, you'll agree £1 is no price at all for a good nights sleep!
Summary: Could have more of a 'fun' element but still quite a nice children's bath bomb
