Advantages: Looks magical, fun, lovely smell

Disadvantages: Isn't particularly moisturising, stars sink quite quickly

I got this as a Christmas present along with a few other lush products. I've never tried anything from Lush before, if I'm honest it's because the overall smell of the shop always put me off going in! Also I don't really use block soap as I prefer shower gel. Despite this I was really excited when I opened the present, I had become quite curious about Lush especially after reading peoples reviews on here.

***Before it melted...

The set looked lovely, it came in a cardboard box which is quite plain but it was gift wrapped by Lush in a lovely white textured paper with red ribbon round it. The 5 soaps within it were packed in with loads of popcorn as packaging. It was totally different to anything I had seen before and made the present seem really quirky and different.

This is the first one I have used from the set, it particularly appealed to me because of the lovely nice purple colour of it and I could already see some little shiny stars on the top of it. It also smelt really nice, according to the leaflet in the box it contains tangerine, fennel oil and Juniper berry. It is described as detoxifying and revitalizing. Other than the tangerine I would have no idea what these smell like, but overall the ball smells good, it has a kind of fruity / essential oils type smell to it. It certainly not as strong as the shop smells when I have been in!

***Fizzy bath time...

I love having baths but have never put anything other than bubble bath into the water. So I ran a really hot bath, got in and dropped the bath ballistic in with me. It instantly started fizzing away and loads of deep purple colour came from it. I was actually surprised at how quickly the colour spread round my bath water and before I knew it the water was completely purple. It began as a paler purple colour like a lilac shade, and gradually got darker and darker until it was a deep purple.

With it came loads of silver, gold and black little stars which gradually appeared To begin with they came to the top of the water but then they all eventually sank which was a shame as with the colour of the water I couldn't really see them. Although I found if I moved around in the bath they would surface for a few minutes again. I was a bit worried they would feel gritty or sharp but I couldn't feel them at all, probably because they're so small. The stars last in the hot water and don't melt or anything.

The smell was lovely, just as it had smelt before it melted, and didn't smell overpowering at all just a nice subtle smell, which I found quite relaxing. It lasted the whole time I was in the bath and I felt quite chilled out afterwards. It was similar to when I have used relaxing radox bath bubbles.

I found it quite odd to begin with being in a purple bath, it reminded me of when I used to use 'Matey' bath bubbles when I was young which made your bath random colours! But I gradually got used to it. It did look lovely the purple colour with the stars, but once I had enjoyed it for 5 minutes I kind of wanted to get out rather than soak in the bath for ages like I normally do. I have decided I definitely find being surrounded by bubbles more relaxing and enjoyable than having a different colour bath with extra bits.

I wouldn't say it made the bath water feel any different, as in it didn't feel particularly moisturising or anything, just the same as before. The same goes for when I got out, I wouldn't say my skin felt any more moisturised than normal, but at the same time it didn't feel dry or irritated in any way. However I could still smell the fragrance of the bath ballistic on my skin and around me for a few hours after which was really nice, and different from other bath things I've used which don't generally leave a fragrance on the skin.

When I let the water out of the bath the majority of the stars went down, the others could easily be washed down the plug with the shower. The purple colouring of the bath didn't stain the bath tub at all or leave any kind of marking. However maybe if I had spent a long time in the bath it might have done.

I've found out if you bought one of these on it's own it would cost about £2.50, to begin with this sounded a bit expensive but now I've tried them I think it is good value considering how well they work and that they contain little bits.

***Overall thoughts...

I found it fun using the bath ballistic and was definitely something different. I don't think I would start buying them myself to use on a regular basis as the novelty would probably wear off, but for an occasional treat or as a present I would definitely advise these. I wouldn't say they would be suited to everyone but it is worth a try! They live up to the hype that surrounds them and I would say they are worth the money as they are original and good quality.

Great review- although I found those stars pretty sharp to sit on and we woke up with a bed full from my hair!
