“ Brand: Lush / Powder / Type: Dusting Powder / Subcategory: Powder „
Having tried Lush's popular scent Karma in-store, and being intrigued by it, I decided that this summer would be a 'summer of Karma'. Therefore I bought quite a lot of products in this range! One of them was the Karma Dusting Powder. The Karma fragrance is made up of orange, patchouli, pine, lemongrass and elemi, and it's a very warm, mysterious, spicy scent. I wasn't expecting to like it, as I'm quite a girly girl, but there's something very compelling about it. It's a very summery scent and suits the Dusting Powder well, as it's quite a summery product in some ways! Karma Dusting Powder is one of Lush's range of dusting powders. I always associated these powders with the talcum powders I used to use when I was about five, but seriously, these are very grown up and enjoyable to use. This particular powder is suitable for vegans and contains chickpea flour and cornstarch as a base to absorb the moisture, as well as patchouli, orange and lemongrass oil to make up the Karma fragrance. I find that in different Karma products, different aspects of the Karma scent dominate: in the dusting powder I find that it's the patchouli that comes out most, with a hint of orange and lemongrass. Lush say that this powder is "cooling, smoothing and deliciously comforting on a hot day. Dusting powders deserve to make a comeback and Lush is leading the charge. Dust with Karma to complement your fragrance and to make your skin feel smooth as silk". I tend to use this powder in the morning alongside my Karma Kream after a shower, as well as during the day to freshen up. This powder is great to use if you're feeling a bit hot and bothered (although if you're feeling that hot and sweaty, you should probably go and have a shower!). It complements the other products in the Karma range well and is refreshing to use. I have a couple of criticisms, however. One is minor, but it is that when I apply the powder, it feels slightly gritty on my hands. Not on my body, luckily (albeit confusingly), but on my hands. This is probably down to the flour or the starch, but is slightly annoying. The other, more major problem is the packaging. The black container is attractive and simple, but the powder keeps spilling out. In fact, when I apply the powder, I don't even have to twist the lid to the 'open' position, I can shake the box while it's still closed and plenty of powder still comes out! This basically means that while the powder is fine just sitting on my sink, I can't actually take it anywhere, because it would make a massive mess. I wonder if this problem is the reason Lush are discontinuing Karma powder, because it doesn't seem to happen with the others. Yes, Karma Dusting Powder is being discontinued, and is no longer available in the shops, but can still be obtained via the website, if you fancy getting hold of some. Karma Dusting Powder costs £6.10 for a 100g tub, which is comparable to other dusting powders in the range. It does last for ages so it's well worth it!
I absolutely adore Lush and spend far too much money in there to be totally honest with you however from time to time I do like to have a little (or not so little treat) from there! There was actually a reason I purchased this particular product though. My best mate Pink (yep odd nickname I know lol) is totally devout to the Karma range of products brought to us by Lush and she always smells of it. In fact her son went and bought her every single Karma product for her for Christmas. At New Year me and my mate Liz went to stay local to my buddy and all I ever smelt on her was this so me being me, I went and treated myself to a couple of Karma items cos not only did I love the smell of it on my mate but also I knew it would remind me of her when I got home! When in the Lush shop I purchased this. I suffer with skin that is a little dry from time to time and wanted a silky body after bathing/showering so decided to give this a go! The Packaging: 100g black cardboard tub which is cylinder in shape. To the top of the tub you twist a black plastic section forward and backwards over holes to open and close it. On the front of the tub in white writing I'm told it is '499' Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics Karma, Karma Dusting Powder 'Calming body powder with hidden depths of spiced orange fragrance. Sprinkle all over to unleash your inner hippy'. On the back of the tub I'm clearly given contact details for Lush, ingredients are listed and there is a symbol letting me know it is Vegan on there. Nice, no nonsense tub this is as usual from Lush and easy to use too! The Powder Itself: Very fine and silky smooth white powder this is! It goes on the skin none clumpy and what I do like with this is that a little really does go along way and although you do have to rub it slightly into the skin you can get it so you can dress (even in dark clothes) if your careful rather quickly too! Smell wise well to me this is totally gorgeous! Very, very, very, very rich in fragrance this isn't for someone who doesn't want to be noticed believe me! It has a rich smell of sort of musky orangy scent to it with woody undertones and is quite simply in my humble opinion wonderful and fresh but very deep in fragrance! Once on the skin I find it none agitating and it makes my skin not only feel clean and fresh and me somewhat sexy (the fragrance really is that good lol) but my skin is left feeling divinely soft and smooth! Great for using on freshly shaved skin and anywhere you wanna rub it.... I love the fact that the fragrance of this stays rich for hours upon hours and in my view this is best used in conjunction with other products from the Lush 'Karma' range. At £6.10 a tub (only available in Lush) the initial pay out seems rather alot for what is effectively a talcum powder however not only does a little of this spread a very long way indeed it really is an amazingly, feminine product that screams quality and of course your safe in the knowledge it is made from natural ingredients (or naturally derived one's) and of course like all the other products from Lush it isn't tested on animals either! Go on treat yourself to this... I bet you don't regret it!
