Advantages: the smell

Disadvantages: expensive, lack of bubbles

Like most women, my idea of relaxing after a long hard slog at work is to have a nice long soak in a deliciously scented bath. For everyday use I pick up some pretty nice cheap bubble baths form Bodycare. However there is only one shop to go to for an extra special luxurious bath, Lush. Duskman was being extra nice to me at Valentines Day, and bought me a little parcel of sleep inducing lush products as we had colds that week and were not sleeping well at all. It contained two lavender-scented products. These are Waving Not Drowning Bath Ballistic and Dreamtime luxury bath melt. The latter will be the subject of this review.

Dreamtime. What nice name for a bath product but what exactly is it?? Like you I was asking myself that question. I have used Lush?s Bubble bar slices and bath ballisitics before but never the bath melts. They are more like solid bath oil than a bubble bath as they contain essential oils and cocoa butter. There are five bath melts to choose form. Dreamtime is a night time bar and consists of relaxing lavender, almond, jasmine, ginger and sandalwood oils for a sensual and calming bath.

So what does it look like?

First thing you noted is the lack of packaging. Some firms would have put foil and a ribbon and paper to make it look very appealing in the shop. My bar just came in a little plastic bag with the instructions on how to use this little bar. The bar itself is white with little light brown bits in it. I thought these were oats but there are no oats in the ingredients. In fact these are little jasmine flowers. The bar is rectangular and is approximately 5x2x1cms in size.

Texture and smell

There is only one way to describe the smell of this bar and that is lavender. The smell is quite overpowering and reminds me of the dried bags of the stuff you used for scenting your drawers. It does smell quite nice even though it is a bit if a Granny?s scent. The texture of the bat is harder to describe as it
is quite unusual. It did not feel like a soap bar or any of their bubble bath bars at all. The nearest thing to it would be Lush?s massage bars. They are quite soft, very smooth and slippery. Touching it leaves a silky trace on your hands. This is due to the high cocoa butter content.

Bathtime.
I followed the instruction as printed on the bag and put the bar in the bath whilst the water was still running. I then got in. I watched the hot water melt the bar like it does cooking chocolate. As the bar evaporated a very fine, thin trickle of foam appeared. I suppose I was a little bit disappointed with the bubbles as I do like a nice bath full of foam. This soon disappeared. What a pity. The one thing I did notice about this bar was that it made the water feel softer as the cocoa butter dispersed. I liked the feel of the soft moisturising effect on my skin but this soon disappeared like the bubbles did. I lay back and relaxed. All I could smell was lavender as it permeated the water then the whole bathroom. This was relaxing. I noticed there were little white things floating in the water. These were the bits of jasmine flowers I noticed in the bar. I am not sure what they were in there for apart from decorating the bath. Lush does like to put little surprises in their products that can turn out to be a bit annoying especially when they make a mess of the bath and block the plughole.

After forcing myself to get out of the bath I dried myself. The bathroom was still fully scented and this aroma lingered on for a few hours after. The scent also lingered on my skin for a while. I was disappointed that my skin did not feel noticeably softer than before the bath. If it did it was not aware of it. The product did achieve one of its aims. I felt thoroughly relaxed and ready for a good nights sleep

This product is available in all Lush stores, through their website and their mail order catalogue. Like all Lush products it is cruelty free and
is also suitable for vegans. I?m not sure about the price of this product as it was a present. . Knowing Lush prices I would guess this would cost about £2.50. This makes it a nice treat for a special bath rather than an everyday product.

Would I buy this product for myself??

I am not sure. The smell was nice but I prefer less flowery scents anyway. I was relaxed but I felt other products might have this same effect. I was disappointed that the cocoa butter did not really have a noticeable effect on my skin and would have preferred a bubblier bath than I had. There you go another Lush review from me!

This sounds lovely. I think I'm going to treat myself to some lush products and visit their website. I still haven't tried any!
