Advantages: Feels luxurious to use, loads of bubbles, soft skin
Disadvantages: Would have preferred the smell to be a bit stronger
I bought this bubble bar absolutely ages ago, but have only just used it. When I had seen it online and read reviews, it sounded gorgeous, but when I received it, there was something a little uninspiring about it, that always made me go for something else. I decided that I better get it used up now, as Lush products are much better when fresh, and I didn't want it to go off!
The Ma Bar was a product originally brought out for Mother's day, hence it's name. It proved to be extremely popular though, so Lush brought it back as a regular product.
As I'm sure you can see from the picture, the bar is brown on one side, white on the other, with a lump of brown sugar in the middle. All Lush products are hand made, hence its uneven shape.
The idea of a bubble bar is that it is basically a solid bubble bath. This way it uses no packaging, but due to the price, is perhaps more a luxury product than one you would use every day.
This one smells very sweet - the Lush website say its 'chocolate toffee' with the brown half being cocoa and the white half being honey toffee. Personally I didn't really think it was particularly chocolatey, but it definitely has a toffee smell to it, with a slight hint of orange, probably due to the fact it contains bergamot and sweet orange oil.
To use the bar, you simply crumble it under running water. I found that it broke up quite easily and dissolved very quickly, turning the water a dark chocolate brown colour, and creating a mass of frothy white bubbles. Of all the Lush bubble bars I have used, I would say this one created by far the most bubbles! They were covering the surface of the bath water, and there was a really thick layer of them too. As well as a huge amount of bubbles, I also found that they lasted the whole bath. Cheaper products I have used in the past, often create plenty of bubbles, but give it five minutes and they've all disappeared, these ones lasted right up until I got out.
Like most of the bubble bars I have tried, once you get in the water, you can feel the oils the product contains, making it feel silky and luxurious.
The smell of the product is nice, but I thought quite subtle once I was in the water. Many Lush products I have used fill the room with a strong aroma of the product - this one, I could definitely smell it, but it wasn't all that strong. Once out of the bath, there was that sweet, honey scent left on my skin, and my skin did feel lovely and soft afterwards.
A Ma Bar, weighing 100g will cost £2.35 from Lush or www.lush.co.uk. That is slightly expensive, but you could always break it up so as to get more than one bath from it.
Overall I was quite impressed with my Ma Bar. It smelled lovely - although I would have liked the fragrance to be a bit stronger. It felt luxurious to use, created lots of bubbles and made my skin lovely and soft. Definitely recommended.
Summary: It's Ma Bar - hands off!
