Advantages: Great smell, wonderful feel, total luxury

Disadvantages: Price

Along with half of Dooyoo, it seems, I'm slowly working my way through the entire Lush product range. After a geeky tallying up (!), I realised I'd used far fewer products than my long-time love of the shop would have expected. Obviously I'm stuck in a Lush rut, using the same products over and over. No more! Time to stretch my horizons!!

That said, I'd overlooked this one many a time thinking I must have tried it in the past - after all, it is on Lush's 'Most Wanted' list! But, nope - and despite the cost (over £3!), it was time to rectify that situation.

Now, me being me, the first thing I did with my Lush haul was start cutting all the ballistics in half! Although it does help with the cost issue, my reason for this is more to do with 'soapiness' - a whole bubble bar leaves me feeling coated and a bit slimy, and in need of a rinse after my bath - not good! So, out came a sharp knife, and everything got hacked into two. It wasn't that easy with the MM: it feels a bit squidgier on the top, but it's actually almost as solid as a ballistic (the bubble bars are soft enough to crumble by hand, of course).

Then, here's my first warning about this: it can go a bit mouldy!! Obviously it must have touched something - maybe even just water? - when I was cutting it, and next time I took it out of the bag there were blue stains on one bit. It didn't look at all healthy, but not desperately nasty, so I just scraped those bits off and used the rest. I'd advise, then, keeping the MM in its bag until you're ready to use it, and in very dry conditions!
[EDIT: I've just discovered the 'Green Day' bubble bar in my Lush bag has seeped a greeny-blue stain through its bag - which might have gone through to the MM!]

At this point I also realised that my 'halving' had been rubbish, and I really had more like 1/3rd and 2/3rd - ah, bugger it, just chuck the lot in! Obviously this is the more indulgent thing to do, which did add to the whole experience, psychologically - and to my pleasant surprise I wasn't left *too* soapy: perhaps just a little bit more than I'm used to, but certainly nothing objectionable. So in future, yes, I'll probably tag this one as 'Serious Treat' and only expect one bath out of it! And what a treat! I dropped the MM into a pre-run bath, where it promptly sank and very slowly started giving out a pink... stain. I wandered off for a while, coming back to find two splodges on the surface of thick pink foam above where I'd dropped my pieces of the bath melt. A quick swirl dissipated these through the water, which felt... not oily at all, but definitely something. Softer, if that makes sense. Silky :)

The smell is lovely: sweet and a bit girly, without being too floral or too overwhelming. It's quite like the Candy Bar scent, if you're familiar with that, but with a deeper, rich tone that stops it being quite so sweetie-sugary, if that makes sense. More, it was a perfect strength for me. I've been disappointed with so many Lush bath scents of late that I have started wondering if I'm having problems with my nose sensitivity instead! This, though, was neither overpowering nor so subtle that I had to sniff the water to find it! Of course, having chucked the whole bar in - as instructed! - probably helped ;)

There are no essential oils in the Melting Marshmallow; just chamomile, marigold and marshmallow 'powders'. Marshmallow is a plant, and was originally (but no longer) contained in the sweet - making it quite medicinal. It was used to help coughs and mouth ulcers, and is considered to be anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. However, Lush admit that they aren't using the most potent root in this product. Chamomile, obviously, is calming and relaxing, but is also used to help with back and muscle pain, and arthritis. The MM also contains almond oil and cocoa oil, to help its moisturising abilities.

I have to say, I enjoyed this bath more than any I've had in *ages* - and I like my baths!! The whole atmosphere from this bath melt was one of decadent indulgence, and it wasn't difficult to just slip down into the marshmallow haze and let everything else drift away! The feeling of the water was lovely: really soft and caressing - obviously there's a fine line between rich and overly-soapy (or going the other way to just a bit too watery, as I seem to usually manage!), and this hit it spot on for me!

After the bath my skin continued to feel soft. I did still moisturise my feet and elbows, but quite frankly I do that compulsively before bed! I definitely didn't feel any need for moisturiser anywhere else.

The smell lingered appealing through to the next morning in my bathroom, at least - until it was time to crack out the wake-me-up shower gel. Lush, of course! :)

I'm giving this the full 5 stars! I could take points of only for the cost and/or one use aspect, but really - that's what you should expect from Lush, and they do say on their website that the bath melts are 'luxury' products, best saved for 'special days'. This is not a daily product, but an absolute treat when you feel in the need of some (calorie free!) real indulgence - the one use, high cost only adds to this feel. I'll definitely be buying this again - and again, and again! - whenever I want to feel like a proper be-Lushed goddess :)

Price: £3.25 - an expensive bath, but pretty good value for total luxury!

Availability: In Lush stores only, or direct from their website - for a hefty postage fee, so make sure you order lots to get your money's worth ;)

Fresh ingredients:
Almond Oil , Chamomile Powder , Citric Acid , Cocoa Butter , Marigold Powder , Marshmallow Powder , Water

Lush say: "Slow melting musky marshmallow marvel. Mmm melts into a pink, fluffy waterbed of marshmallow and mega moisturising cocoa butter as your gently frothing Mmm Luxury Bath Melt dissolves languidly in a fuchsia haze of musk, marshmallow and marigold. Each Melting Marshmallow Moment is made with marshmallow herb, which produces a sweet, skin soothing mucilage and was used to make sugar candies for hundreds of years, and marigold, which is equally calming for your skin. This is the sweet that is good for you. Take your time." (from lush.co.uk)

I say: The most indulgent Lush experience yet!

Recommended partner: Rock Star soap - it's more the Candy Bar scent, but is close enough and goes well. Although Melting Marshmallow is one Lush bath that doesn't need any help enhancing the scent!

Summary: The most indulgent Lush experience yet!
