“ Brand: Lush / Type: Massage Bar „
I bought this massage bar from the Lush website when I was on the lookout for some Christmas treats at the end of last year.
The massage bar cost me £4.95 which isn't too bad in value considering that you'll get a fair amount of uses from the one bar. The bar has a very warming scent to it which I would describe as quite sweet and festive. The bar itself is an oval shape with some nice little designs embedded into it. The bar is a creamy colour and it's the perfect size for the Lush massage bar tin.
The bar feels lovely when rubbed against the skin and it melts pretty much straight away - as soon as it comes into contact with the skin. The bar lasts a good while as it doesn't shrink straight away and it keeps well. The scent of the bar doesn't fade either.
The bar is very soothing and moisturising and it helps to keep the skin soft and supple. The scent lingers on your skin for HOURS after use and the bar doesn't leave the skin feeling greasy. The bar is great for all year round use but it's especially great in winter when your skin is feeling drier than usual.
I would recommend this lovely little massage bar. It's great for all skin types and it's natural too. It's not tested on animals either so it's cruelty free.
I was delighted when I saw that one of Lush's limited edition Retro Christmas products for 2011 was going to be the Merry Christmas Massage Bar. Though I'd never tried the bar before, I knew it had the same scent as Bob Soap and Gold, Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly - one of my favourite ever Lush scents.
Massage bars are basically solid blocks of moisturising oils and butters, scented with luxurious scents and containing all manner of lovely ingredients. They are really designed for two person massager, but even single gals like me can enjoy using them as intensive moisturisers. I love to have baths and I also take a shower in the evening after the gym a few times a week, and find a massage bar is ideal to use in the evening to intensively moisturise my skin overnight.
This particular massage bar is oval in shape, so it fits perfectly into one of Lush's massage bar tins. If you don't have one you can keep it in any container you have to hand. Just in case you were in any doubt as to which massage bar it is, it has the phrase "MERRY XMAS" printed across the top.
The bar isn't the most exciting in appearance, but it more than makes up for this with its scent. This is made up of sweet wild orange oil, cinnamon leaf oil, clove bud oil and black pepper oil which combine to create a spicy citrusy warming scent that is incredibly festive and incredibly delicious. For those who have tried the Gold, Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly and the Bob Soap, I would state that the Merry Xmas Massage Bar is recognisably made up of the same scent but the citrus notes are more pronounced in the massage bar - at least the first time you smell it.
To use the bar, you rub it between your hands to warm the oils and rub your hands over your skin, massaging if you wish. Alternatively you can rub the bar straight onto your skin. The bar melts perfectly as far as I'm concerned - not so fast that it becomes greasy, and not too slowly that it becomes annoying to use. You can apply lots for an intensive moisturising experience or a bit less to use as a normal moisturiser.
I find that the scent changes as the evening goes on - the strong citrusy scent dies down a little to reveal 'base notes' of clove, cinnamon and black pepper. It's a layered scent and absolutely lovely. I find that the black pepper comes out especially strongly on my skin, which is very different, but spicy and nice!
My skin feels incredibly moisturised for several hours after use, and indeed right up until the next morning. This is down to the incredibly moisturising ingredients in the massage bar: the bulk of it is made up of Fair Trade organic sesame oil, cocoa butter and shea butter. The bar contains no animal-derived ingredients and is therefore wholly suitable for vegans.
The bar cost me £4.95 which is less than many other massage bars and is a price I'm happy to pay for this item. It will last for anything between 5-10 uses depending on how much you use. Mine will probably last around 8 I am guessing.
I'm pretty gutted this was a limited edition Christmas product and I only got one! I really hope it comes back next year and will certainly be keeping an eye out.
