Advantages: Fun to use, unusual, refreshing, works!

Disadvantages: Lack of info, short shelf life

Yep, I'm following the trend everyone, and writing a Lush review! I've always found Lush a fascinating shop, with a somewhat overpowering smell, true. The thing that's bothered me however are the prices. I love their bath bombs, probably the product most people are familiar with but I just cannot justify spending £3 or so on a bath (no including water!) I do think they are a great presents to give (and receive!)

I recently visited my local Lush looking for a new face scrub or wash. Bored with all the ones you find on the shelves of Boots and Superdrug made by leading brands that promise the earth and don't deliver I wanted to try something a little more alternative. It seemed my luck was in when a little pot with 'Ocean Salt' caught my eye. I love all things about the sea, the smell especially and I adore and sea themed toiletries so I decided to give it a go.

The product comes in pots of two sizes, 120g which is £5.96 and 250g which is £10.96. Not having tried it before I settled on the smaller pot. I usually pay around £3-4 for a face wash usually and this looked like it had roughly the same amount in it. So a little pricey, but it would be worth it if it works.

When you open the pot there is a gorgeous but surprisingly subtle fresh smell. There is a layer of turquoise salt crystals on the top and creamy blue thick mush underneath, mix it all up for the best effect. I use a small dollop about the size of grape I guess, which is about right for one use. Be gentle when using it, the salt is quite abrasive so gently does it. I adore using this product. The smell, the sensation of rubbing the salt on my skin and the freshness of my skin afterwards is unbeatable. I actually look forward to washing my face in the morning now!

The pot tells me that this product contains vodka, coconut, grapefruit and sea salt and that if you collect five of the pots you can get a free Lush face mask. Great stuff. But what about directions for use? Skin types etc, there's not a lot else on there. Obviously if you are in a Lush store you can ask one of their overly enthusiastic assistants all this but it would be nice to have the info on the pot to take away with you.

Luckily the Lush website came in handy on the information on here it states that the product should only be used as a refresh on dry skin one a week but on oily skin is ok to use every day. Surely quite important information that should have been a little easier to obtain, no?

Unless there's two of you using this every day, I don't see the point of buying the big pots of this. Because Lush products are fresh, they have a short life. I bought my small pot in September and the expiry is November, nearing the end of October I still have quite a bit left, and that's with my using it every day. This is great, proves it is good value for money after all, but the trick with Lush is to buy little and often, I've now discovered.

After using this a few weeks I'm very impressed. My skin feels better than it has in ages and I just love using the product. It's not a miracle worker, I still get the odd spot now and again and my skin get greasy by the end of the day, but as far as face scrubs go, this is the best I've come across. Now I see what all the fuss was about!

Summary: The best scrub I've tried.
