Advantages: Creamy and sweet
Disadvantages: Rough on the skin, maybe too sweet?
I love Lush, I love most of their products (Lemslip aside, see previous review) but I'm really not sure about this one. Initially I wasn't attracted to it. The colour can only really be described as beige - in a kind of wholesome way, with oaty bits, if you look closely at it, but to be honest whilst in Lush I wasn't looking at it at all, I was enticed by pink and glittery things on the other side of the shop. It smells lovely, but a Lush shop is not the best place to smell anything - generally my nose is on overload.
So I only got this because it was one of a range of products free with another purchase, and it was right by the till, and the assistant pointed at it. On eagerly opening my bag of goodies when I got home, I found Porridge to be very sweet smelling - not like porridge at all but perhaps more like Oats So Simple or some other oat cereal that has been over sweetened! The soap contains Sweet Orange Oil and Coconut oil, but the majority of the smell is courtesy of molasses I think - a very dark syrup. It is a very unusual smell, and an unusual look, for a soap.
The oats are exfoliating, and therefore this soap is probably not ideal for a hand soap, which is a shame, because it is otherwise really soft and creamy. I have found in the shower that it is quite a rough exfoliator and I definitely wouldn't want to use it every time I shower. I'm surprised that it is described as good for sensitive skin for this reason, but the soap itself is very gentle. Another reason that I wouldn't want to use it daily is that I'm not always in the mood for something so sweet. Depending on how I feel, it might be comforting, or it might be sickly - a bit like hot chocolate. Probably largely because of the oats, the soap is very creamy and lathers well.
Porridge is available from Lush stores or online for £2.50 for 100g, and is cut from a block and weighed like all Lush soaps. I'd suggest asking for a sample if you aren't sure about it - Lush are usually good about doing this.
Summary: I might stick to toast and marmite
