First Impressions

I’ve always loved pampering my feet and found it to be highly therapeutic. The delight is heightened by using a shiny and exciting new product from somewhere. I’ve used tons of products, yet what made this one stand out is that it’s a solid. I found this rather intriguing and always ready to try something new; I went to Lush to investigate. The product is found in their body butter section, although if you are new to the shop the Sales Assistants are extremely helpful. The most distinguishing thing about this product is definitely its physical state. As I said I had never seen one before and it seemed to be delightfully quirky. In addition to this it promised to be free of preservatives and uses diminished packaging and so was great for the planet. Also I had been sick of squeezing exfoliator out of resisting tubes and the idea of a handy solid seemed quirky and a refreshing change. The second most pleasurable aspect is the colour. It’s a mint green colour and psychologically this made me think of natural products and if you are shopping from Lush that is after all what you are after. You can also see the speckles of pumice inside the bar and this gives you the confidence that it’s going to work. The smell is wonderfully minty and fresh and with one inhalation you are already anticipating the cooling sensation it will induce, in addition to a richer scent from the cocoa and shea butter that promises intense moisturisation. So all in all I was very happy to bar my first bar and as an added bonus it’s one of the easiest products to purchase from Lush because you don’t have to worry about waiting for it to be cut and having to pay extra for a larger block.

Promises

In it’s description Lush describes the bar as a: ‘Foot Scrub, Moisturiser and Conditioner for soft, comfortable feet. This refreshing, green bar is a multi-purpose, multi-tasking clever little thing which revives tired feet with spearmint and peppermint, soothes them with marigold essential oils, takes off dead skin with ground pumice stone and moisturises them with cocoa butter and shea butter. Use it in the bath or shower or run yourself a bowl of warm water and use the bar to give your wet feet a massage and pumice scrub.

Results

For the first few uses I found the bar to be a little tricky to use, but I guess that that was because I had been used to liquid products. Although it is recommended to be used in the bath or shower I recommend doing it afterwards when skin is still damp, but not sopping as this concentrates the product and makes it more effective, yet still traps water inside the skin. When massaging your own feet the bar is actually very handy as it allows you to both intensely exfoliate or gently buff, depending on the pressure you use. It also feels more unexpected than using your own hands and so you can shut your eyes and wistfully pretend you are having a pedicure in a spa somewhere. However on other people I find it easier to melt the product in your hands before applying so that you can use your hands freely. However this makes the process a bit stop and start and since during massage you should keep physical contact at all times it isn’t always the best method. However for yourself it’s brilliant, especially when you are in a hurry as the one bar exfoliates and moisturises, so no additional lotion need be applied. However if you are a person who loves their foot ritual with a billion products piled one on top of each other, this may not be for you. Once you have rinsed the product off, which is best done in the shower it blast it all away, my feet were left looking and feeling gorgeous. The peppermint and spearmint left them tingling and this was great as it suggested blood flow had increased and I think my feet as an extremity appreciated a little extra attention, especially as it was being provided with nutrients in he blood for repair and moisturisation. They had also left my feet smelling fresh, but in a natural non-chemically way which felt good. The butters had really done their job and my feet did feel much softer and smoother but without the greasy after feel of some lotions, as all excess product is washed away. I was amazed and delighted at the results, especially as they had been achieved to a greater extent than I had ever experienced using double or even triple the amount of product.

Ingredients

Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao) , Pumice , Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride) , Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) , Laureth 4 , Spearmint Oil (Mentha viridis) , Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita) , Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta) , Chlorophyll , *Limonene , *Linalool , Perfume

Vale for Monmey

A 110g bar costs the fixed price of £3.95. Although this may seem quite steep as a bottle of exfoliant can be as cheap as £1.99, it must be remembered that the bar acts as a lotion as well, so really you are saving money. Originally I found that I was going through a bar fairly quickly, however I was recommended to store it in a body butte tin which costs £2.50. This stops the product melting and evaporating away and really increases it’s life to about two or three months of twice weekly use. Also means that the bar can travel safely with me, with no worries about exploding bottles which is great. Therefore I think this product is certainly worth it’s money and to be honest should cost a little more (but don’t tell Lush because I’m poor at the moment).

Overall

This is a fabulous, natural and truly effective product. I find it totally brilliant for my needs and great fun to use and recommend hat everyone should give it a try.

Summary: A quirky new and in many ways better alternative to foot products
