Advantages: Gorgeous fresh scent, good amount of lather, doubles as a bubble bath

Disadvantages: Expensive for a shower gel, only available online

I own quite a few of the Lush shower gels both from the current range and the Retro range, but because they're fairly expensive, I tend to only use them now and again, alternating with cheaper brands. Slammer is a shower gel I have been using for ages now and as I'm nearing the end of the bottle, I thought I'd tell you all about it!

Slammer is a shower gel which comes from the Retro range. This is a range of Lush products which were around years ago, and have now been brought back for purchase online only. I don't remember this one from the first time around, and obviously as it's not sold in the shops I had no way of trying it before buying, so didn't know what it smelled like. I had to use the ingredients list on the Lush website to guess if I would like it - something which has failed me in the past! Thankfully though, with this one, the scent of Slammer totally exceeded my expectations...

The shower gel contains amongst other things : Fresh lime peel decoction (what's a decoction?), Fresh sea water, Fresh Organic Lime Juice, Honey, Lime Oil and Lemon oil. These things combine to give a gorgeous fresh and zesty scent. I love citrus fragrances anyway, and the combination of lemon and lime is always a winner with me, but the honey that this contains takes away the sharpness of the scent and gives it a slightly luxurious edge, that makes it stand out from other shower gels.

Slammer is marketed as a 'Shower Gel and Hangover Rescue' by Lush. I must admit it's been years since I had a hangover, and so I haven't had chance to test out this claim, however I can confirm that the claim on the Lush website that this is 'An early morning citrus slap in the face' is true! If you're having one of those mornings where you just can't wake up, washing with this gel will certainly help!

It comes in a clear bottle with a white flip top lid, and the gel itself is a gorgeous reddy-orange colour (not the greeny-yellow you may expect from reading the ingredients list!). I wouldn't say it was a thick shower gel, but it's not runny or watery either - just a nice consistency somewhere in the middle.

The shower gel lathers up very well and only a small amount is needed. If you use a shower puff you can get away with even less, so one bottle will last a long time. The scent of the gel as you use it really comes out, and will linger in the bathroom for some time after using it.

I find that not only does this get my skin clean but it leaves it feeling soft too, and unlike some of the other Lush shower gels, doesn't dry it out. The scent lingers on the skin too, so not only does it wake you up, but it keeps you awake!

Lush say on their website that you can also pour a bit of this under running water to make a bubble bath. I did give it a try this way, and found that as soon as I squirted some under the tap my whole bathroom was filled with the gorgeous Slammer scent. There were not a huge amount of bubbles created though, and unfortunately those that were there faded quickly. If you have run out of bubble bath I would say this is perfectly adequate, however I wouldn't suggest using it in place of one on a regular basis, as in my opinion it works best as a shower gel.

Now for me, the main downside of this shower gel (other than the fact you can't buy it in the shops) is the price. Unlike the current Lush shower gels, the retro versions only come in 500g bottles, and at £9.79 it is not particularly cheap, and bear in mind that because you're buying online you will have to pay postage too. Saying that, only a small amount of this shower gel is needed per use. I think I got my bottle in around August last year, and have only began using it more frequently because it is reaching its expiry date fast!

Overall a lovely shower gel, and it's great that it doubles as a bubble bath, even if it doesn't perform particularly well that way! If you like citrus scents and can justify the high price tag, I would definitely suggest giving this a try, it's become one of my Lush favourites, and I really can't understand why it was discontinued in the first place!

Summary: A luscious offering from Lush!
