Advantages: Fresh, Invigorating, cold, brrrrrrrrr

Disadvantages: Slimey and gooey!!!

Every now and again a product hits the market that makes you think one of two things. Either:-

1. God, that's soooooooo simple, why the devil didn't I think of that? I could have made myself a small fortune!

or alternatively, and probably much more likely...

2. What a bloody stupid idea! What idiot came up with that? It will never work, it will never sell and someone is going to lose a shedload of money!

Well, I've just come across one of these little gems and luckily for Lush, the company that has come up with this, I would definitely place it in the first section!

Before I tell you all about it, let me tell you a little bit about Lush. For those of you who are yet to see the light and be converted to the growing religion that is Lush....

Essentially, Lush sell 'smellies' as mentioned above. But not just your normal Boots type smellies. These are all handmade, and some of them are very novel. They sell quite a large range of items, from the Bath Bombs they are known best for, through solid shampoo (sounds wierd it's really very good!) to massage bars and many other lovely items

So what is this wonder product I'm talking about? Well, you know those bags you can get in the supermarket that you fill with water to make ice-cubes (What do you mean no, stop being awkward!) Have a think what else you could fill them with. Knowing how subversive you all are, I bet you're thinking vodka so you can get yourselves well and truly smashed! Personally I prefer Vimto cordial for a refreshing ice in summer. But what about filling them with shower gel. No, I'm not joking, Lush have come up with the idea of filling these bags with some rather potent smelling shower gel to make, yes you've guessed it, little cubes of shower gel ice. Strange but true!!!

Before you ask no they are not meant to add some extra flavour and bubbles to your cola, they are designed to
give you that much needed extra bit of zing in the morning.

There have got to be loads of you out there who, like me, have a spot of bother getting going in the morning. I've tried cold showers to try and help prise my eyes open in the morning, but all they manage to do is make me feel really chilly and rush straight back to bed to try and warm up again. OK, I?ll admit it, I?m a complete wimp, but there has got to be an easier way to get yourself going in the morning. An uplifting shower gel, you know like the ones from Original Source seem to help a bit, but the heat of the shower always makes me feel sleepy again and all I want to do after my shower is curl up in a ball in my dressing gown and doze off, rather than getting my backside in gear and getting myself ready for work! It's been particularly difficult this week as I've been starting work early, there is definitely something unnatural about getting up for work at 0430 in the morning, it really should be made illegal to get up at that time!

These shower gel ice-cubes, called Slammers (blimey, it's taken over 600 words just to get to the product name, that's got to be some sort of record surely!). Anyway, these Slammers have provided me with the perfect solution. You get a wonderfully fruity, zingy and refreshing shower gel to give you a burst of lemon and lime fragrance to get your head going, in an ice-cube that you rub all over your body (ooh-er!) to invigorate your body and kick-start all those weary limbs. What else could you ask for? Believe me, it really works.

Basically, just take one Slammer, or if you're feeling particularly brave, two. jump into a nice warm shower and rub yourself all over. Obviously the ice is cold, but it's a surprisingly pleasurable contrast to the heat of the shower and definitely gives you that much needed boost to get you going and shake off the cobwebs.

In practical terms, you can't hang around b
etween the freezer and the shower as they do begin to melt rather quickly, and the last thing you want to do is drip gooey shower gel all over your flat. Believe me, it's a bugger to get out of the carpet! It's a good idea to put your cube in a little glass until you actually need to use it, saves covering all your gleaming (or dirty!) bathroom surfaces as well!

For your money you get 21 little ice-cubes, and as you will normally only use one each shower, that's 21 invigorating morning showers for your cash. They cost around three quid, so that's about 15p a shower, which seems a bit of a bargain in my books.

One piece of advice though. Once you've frozen them and used the first cube, don't try and move them to another location. I've recently moved house and still had half a packet in the freezer. They'll be OK I though, it's not like I've got to eat them, they will re-freeze OK, so I put them in a big bag with all my other bathroom gear. And I'm sure they would have frozen OK again, if the gel had remained in the bag for the journey. I arrived at my new house to be greeted with a very, very gooey mess in my bathroom bag that took quite a lot of cleaning! So once opened, try not to let them defrost until you use them, it will save you a lot of hassle!

My son used one of the Slammer ice cubes today and thought it was great, but they do melt quite quickly.
