Advantages: Soothing and relaxing

Disadvantages: Won't send you off to sleep as it claims to

I first started using Lush massage bars quite a few years ago and over the years I have tried and tested many different massage bars that are now not available on Lush. Which is nice in a way that I've had th chance to try them but then again if you find a product you really like and then Lush take it away it's a bit disappointing!! One of the massage bars that Lush have completely taken away is Sleepy Head which I will eventually get to reviewing!! Sleepy Head was an unusually shaped bar, have a ball shaped part to the rest of a solid bar. However look a bit closer you can actually make out the moon shape and what I think is the sun as the ball shape! It does take a while to realise this folks! Unfortunately this isn't the prettiest of bars, which are normally Lush's trait, it's quite a plain white coloured bar which could belong to any cosmetics company.

Sleepy Head is scented with stress-relieving lavender, sweet sedative ylang ylang, and warming fennel (which is a good aid for cellulite!), Sleepy Head is supposed to be the perfect massage for transporting busy minds to the Land Of Nod. Yet while its subtle, simple, even fairly bland powdery fragrance does have a calming effect on the spirit, this combination of oils and "perfume" as presented here really doesn't do all that much in the way of actually making you feel sleepy. However I didn't buy it to make me fall to sleep as I don't have problems getting to sleep, I wanted a massage bar to soothe and relax and this is exactly what it does!

Sleepy Head's cocoa and shea butter base glides over the skin with ease, leaving your body deeply moisturised sans an oily or tacky finish. This trait can just as easily be found in the majority of Lush's Massage Bars and one of the main reasons why I bought this bar was due to it's aromatheraputic properties. I love lavender and anything that has it in I tend to buy. However I guess, if you want something that probably would send you to the land of nod, you'd probably need to opt for Lush's Therapy Massage Bar.

Sleepy Head is perfect for using just after you have just got out of the bath, just before your ready to go to bed. As I said before the cocoa butter bar is absorbed quickly into the skin and the scent lingers onto the skin. Even though it's not quite as strong as you would of hoped, it is subtley there which is nice especially if you haven't used a perfumed bath product. However even though the bar leaves your skin nicely moisturised, don't over do it with this bar, as with most massage bars, you skin will stop absorbing and your skin can be left quite greasy.

I have to say however much I like this bar I didn't like the fact it melted so quickly, as soon as it was in the palm of my mind it was quite slippery from where it was melted. This massage bar will definately have to be kept away from water and any humidity as it is likely to melt into a pile of mush!

What Lush say:-

Mind racing again? Bring peace to your inner workings with lavender, ylang ylang and fennel massage your head, temples, neck, and shoulders for a tranquil sleep. Being tired and unable to sleep is a horrid feeling. Tired, sleepless and knowing that tomorrow you're going to have to stay awake all day at work is even worse. The frustration at not sleeping keeps you awake too.

Unfortunately Sleepy Head is now not available anywhere to my knowledge (I think it was discontinued around 2007/8), certainly not in UK and USA stores which is a real shame. I guess it has now been replaced properly by Lush's Therapy Bar which is just slightly stronger on the scent front. If Lush bring this back I wil definately be buying another and would advise people to do the same! When it was available Lush retailed I at £4.90 which I do think is slightly on the expensive side for a 90g bar but that didn't stop me buying it!!

Summary: A very nice simple massage bar
