Disadvantages: If you dont like the smell of mint this isnt for you
Coming home from a stressful day in the office is a daily occurrence for me. I go to work at stupid o’clock to ensure my day will run as smooth as clock work, although in politics at election time there is always something that has to have been done yesterday, people wanting interviews, facts, figures, swing percentage points, leaflets, data and so much more it makes your head spin. Tired and exhausted I head home as it is getting dark, dreaming of a few hours of stress free relaxation with Steve to ease away the daily grind, after a few rants about people and political parties.
So how do I relax? Well as you may have read already, I am a bit of a Lush fan and they do happen to have some pretty fantastic products ranging from soaps, bubble baths, massages bars and a new favourite of mine ‘Snake Oil Massage Bar’. Intrigued yet? Well after browsing around the lovely Lush shop, I decided that I needed to try something new, different, possibly exciting but relevant and useful and I bought the Snake Oil and simply because the name interested me and well…curiosity got the better of that cat!
The ‘Snake Oil Massage Bar’ was only £2.95 pence for a 55gram bar of product. This is the price you could expect to pay for a massage bar which range in weight and price accordingly.
The Snake bar itself came wrapped within a clear cellophane wrapper which displays clearly the Lush logo.
The ‘Snake Oil’ resembles a piece of soap which picture shows and to use it you pretty much mimic the actions of using a soap or a Lush Massage Bar - to melt the bar you rub it between your hands which then loosens some of the calming essential oils and butters to enable you to massage much easier so that your fingers glide over the skin or as Lush suggest “Melt this on your fingertips and rub into your scalp”. It may be useful to note that whilst the butters and oils are greasy on the hands, it does melt into your scalp really easily without leaving behind a greasy feeling. One thing to note is to make sure the person massaging you has warm hands when they begin to massage you, there is nothing worse than a cold handed masseuse.
So why is it called a ‘Snake Oil Massage Bar’? well apparently the use of ingredients work together to ensure microbes which cause dandruff and leave those white flaky marks on your clothes disappear and help to keep your scalp clear, or to put it another way, stops a snake from shedding it’s skin…hence where the name came from.
The bar itself is a dark, dusty pink in colour and has a large “S” on the front, so it is easily recognisable in any Lush shop or online.
As for the smell, well to me it has a relatively strong smell to it and it reminds me of a cross between peppermint tea and a strong version of Palmers Cocoa Butter, a smell which is also evident once the oils are released. There is also the use of Lavender Oil which helps you to relax and sleep easier along with a whole host of other things which can be found at www.lush.co.uk.
I am not a person who suffers from dandruff, so my sole purpose of buying this product was so that Steve could give me the ultimate relaxing scalp massage after numerous stressful days.
As you can imagine using this product is like putting your head in a chip pan as it is just so greasy, but not in a horrid way. The roots of my hair and my scalp were covered in peppermint oil and as it was massaged further into my scalp I began to relax and feel really de-stressed, almost to the point that I couldn’t care less about my horrid day. As the oils are massaged into your scalp, you will notice the subtle fragrances becoming stronger.
To get a good use of this bar I would suggest massaging your scalp (or should I say, get a loved one to massage it for you) for at least 15-20 minutes so that you can ensure your whole head has been thoroughly covered with these oils and also that you have been given a good head massage!. As I said before, after using this product you will find that your head has suddenly become very greasy, but fear not, it is really easy to wash out and my hair is not left at all greasy, which I thought at first it would and visions of people calling me ‘chip pan head’ came into my mind, but I have to say, you would never know I had used something so greasy on my hair and since I have been using it my hair has become less greasy and I can leave it for an extra day before washing it and my hair is also a lot more shinier than it used to be.
Once you have washed your hair with your usual shampoo, you will find that the smell of peppermint, tee tree oil and cocoa butter fade dramatically.
So do I recommend this product? Well you won’t be surprised to learn that I would recommend this bar to anyone who loves a good Lush product and one that is quite unusual. It does what it claims to do and is cheap for the length of time it seems to last, in my case a good few months and I use it a few times a week.
**Extra Information**
If anyone wants to investigate Lush further to see what ingredients are used for this or any other products then you simply go to www.lush.co.uk which will give you the UK version of their website.
Lush products are not tested on animals, in fact they are vehemently against products being tested on animals and to test their own products they do tests on humans to ensure they are safe for general sale to the public and they will not buy ingredients from companies who use testing on animals as one of their protocols.
Lush first officially launched their products in 1995, although they had been around for many years previous and their name was decided upon in a competition after many years of working under the name 'Cosmetics to go' as a mail order company and so to Poole in Dorset the firm grew and became globally known.
Summary: A minty scalp massage bar
