Advantages: A unique concept

Disadvantages: Is far too hard, doesn't crumble

Please don't ask me why I am writing a review about a Christmas item, let alone suggesting them to Dooyoo. But recently I have been able to find so many old items which I've used before, I seem to be reminiscing and I am pretty sure Dooyoo are hating all the Lush suggestions I'm putting in!! My aim is to enlighten people about Lush and as they have produced a load of Christmas items I thought I may as well start reviewing these before reviewing the 2009 items!!

Snow Festival is one such item which goes back to Christmas 2005 and originally when brought out it proved quite popular as it wasn't just any typical bubble bar! Unlike the usual pre-cut bubble bars that Lush ordinarily sells, Snow Festival was created as

one gigantic "cake" that was decorated white dove and star-shaped candies and sold in bulk, akin to how Lush soaps are usually sold.

So, instead of buying pre-sliced bars of a particular pre-determined weight and sculpted form, you could request a slice of Snow Festival in whatever weight and size you desired. Normally, I'd consider this a good idea. But owed to Snow Festival's consistency generally resembling that of stale, air-hardened cake (it doesn't help that these are left out all day under hot lights) rather than its being soft and "doughy" like most of Lush's bubble bars. A chiselled slice of Snow Festival often looks like it's been whittled away at the edges with a dull garden tool, if it doesn't altogether crumble to bits in its wrapper (again, much like an uncovered cake that no longer has enough moisture to hold itself together). Normal pre-cut bubble bars seem to have a delicate, soft and crumbly consistency where you have to be ultra careful not to get a bag of bits but this would probably survive being dropped off a mountain!

Once in the bath, however, Snow Festival turns soft and creamy, releasing mounds of bubbles and skin-conditioning honey, coconut and almond oils. Yet while those ingredients work a treat on the skin, they offer very little to sate your nose. I mean I love having soft skin after a bath but there is nothing nicer than actually being sat in a bath smelling a wonderful scent. What could have been a most delicious sweet almond cake fragrance is universally subtle to a fault, at times even leaving you with an altogether scentless bath within seconds. Due to this bubble bar's heavy and quite rock like formation you will need to try and crumble as much as you can to get a fine dust as it were because trying to let it self dissolve does not really work!

Sadly, Snow Festival is not really a "festival" after all, if it is to remind you of a festival of any sort, it would more likely resemble a big Winter Solstice celebration to which no one showed up, ironically because the roads had turned icy, thanks to a recent snow shower.

What Lush say:-

"We named Snow Festival after the annual event in Sapporo where people carve huge ice sculptures to make a giant exhibition in temperatures of -20º. We make this honey and almond oil solid bubble bath into an almond scented cake and cut you a slice. You can make masses of bubbles with a 100g chunk then sculpt your own works of art out of foam!"

Needless to say the fact that Snow Festival's unique presentation was only a novelty for about 5 minutes Lush decided that it was never to be returned to the shelves for another year and I can't really blame them. Despite its moisturising qualities - there are many more Lush products which provide this and a lovely staying scent. Please do not panic that you haven't tried it and certainly don't go looking for it!!!

Summary: No longer available - says it all really!
