A while ago I purchased a bottle of the Lush cleanser Starcraft from the Retro section. This cleanser comes in a bottle and I got 95g for £5.95. This is pricey, but I hoped that, like all Lush products, it would be worth the money.
Starcraft is a slightly runny liquid, white in colour, and it comes in a clear plastic bottle, the same as other Lush products. This is handy as you can see exactly how much you have left. The description states that it will “lift your skin to a higher dimension”. The cleanser is made with oat milk and almond oil, honeysuckle and lavender. It is suitable for vegans.
The instructions state to smooth over the face and remove using a warm face cloth or damp cotton wool. I did this and found it felt soothing and cooling on my skin. There was no irritation at all and though the product was runny, the small opening to the bottle meant that it was easy to control how much came out. I didn’t need to use too much of the product.
I then removed the cleanser using cotton wool, following with toner and moisturiser. The cleanser was easily removed and I thought it did a great job of removing all makeup and making my skin feel really cleansed.
Regular use of this product kept my skin clean, clear and healthy and it looked in great condition. I have no complaints to make about Starcraft – a highly effective cleanser that I think would suit even sensitive skins. The only real issue is the price – that, and the fact that it will be hard to get hold of now. However, Lush are releasing past products regularly via their new “Kitchen” so there is a good chance this will turn up at some point!
A few years ago I discovered a wonderful cleanser in Lush called 9 to 5 which has been absolutely brilliant for my skin and I have enjoyed using it but I felt it was time to try something new and in the retro section online a product called Starcraft caught my eye which says "Lift your skin to another dimension - We crafted this cleanser using oats, almond oil, honeysuckle and lavender infusions and lavender essential oil, to make your skin feel clean and heavenly soft". Now if you have read any of my reviews of late, you will know that I have become a bit of a fan of Lavender but the rest of the ingreidnets sold the product too me, along with the price £5.95 will get you a 95g bottle making it just under £1 more expensive than 9 to 5 which I needed to stock up on anyway and this product is limited edition, so who knows how long it will be around for.
Starcraft is sold in a plastic bottle and it is a see through bottle, similar to those you get the Lush Shower Gels in. Featuring a black flip top lid which is easy to open and close and around its middle is a label which details the name and size of the product and obviously the Lush logo. It is quite blandly presented and inside the cleanser, which you can see clearly, is a creamy colour.
.So why cleanse? Its something I started to do when I moved to London 12 years ago, it's a polluter haven, lots of cars, buses, trains and tubes all equalling lots of pollution which in turn leads to dirt and grime on the skin. A few years after moving here I noticed a change in my skin, it is now much dryer and oily in parts, so this has lead to my using more products to try and combat all of this. So Cleansing the skin, which should be part of everyone's daily routine, is done to remove things such as sweat, air pollution, excess oil, grime, cosmetics and bacteria, all of which lead to skin problems and sometimes infection. Cleansing your skin isn't an arduous task, infact it takes me less than an extra five minutes a day to complete this routine, which isn't a lot really.
Like 9 to 5, Starcraft is a liquid cleanser and to use it you simply smooth it over your face, preferably after you have washed and patted dry your skin. You only need to use a small amount, probably no more than a walnut sized blob and then as you apply to your skin, you massage it onto your face, leave it and then using some damp cotton wool, wipe it from your face, massaging it on your skin as you do so and when I complete this task, I tend to take extra care around my cheeks and t-zone where I have dry and oily skin. Once this is completed, look at the cotton wool pad and despite washing your face thoroughly you will probably notice that this lotion has managed to remove even further excess dirt, grime, oil, make-up etc... without fail every time I use this cleanser on my face after washing, it will remove excess dirt and grime - the exact same thing I used to get with 9 to 5 and it really makes you feel so much better, knowing all of that has come off your face and neck! After using it on your face it doesn't leave behind any greasiness or slimy feel on the skin, just soft smooth and moisturised feeling skin.
When it comes to the smell, there is a hint of both the Lavender and Almond oil which smells really lovely and as they are two of my favourite scents, I was really happy that they worked so well together and lingered on the skin. The cream itself is really smooth to the touch, as soon as it touches your skin you can feel its smoothness and it is such a gentle cream which sinks into your skin within seconds.. So after it is applied to your skin, using the cotton wool pad your skin should feel silky soft and smooth to the touch, which mine always does without fail and your skin should no longer feel dry instead completely moisturised and this is down to the ingredients.
As ever with Lush you can expect to see a long list of ingredients.. Starting with Almond oil which you can smell slightly when using, it is easily absorbed into the skin to help with moisturising and is suitable for use on all skin types, especially for someone like me with sensitive skin, it causes no irritations. Secondly there is Oat Milk which soothes your skin, especially dry, itchy and irritated skin. Then we have Honeysuckle infusion which are considered to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properities and it also helps to soften, soothe and moisturise the skin. Next comes Lavender Oil, which is really soothing for and on the skin and it is also soothing and calming on the nerves, helps to relieve stress and tension, helps with depression and irritability and in general it is effective for headaches, migraines and for those people who suffer from insomnia. Again, as ever, there is a further list of ingredients to be looked at and you will find them all listed online or on the back of your bottle.
So with all of those ingredients it isn't hard to see why this cleanser comes highly recommended not only from Lush but from me. Having used this product since the beginning of January, every morning and in an evening before going to bed as part of my skincare routine, I am still amazed at how soft my skin feels after using this cleanser and still shocked that it manages to find dirt and grime on a daily basis, even after I have washed my face. Again, this product is one of those that will last depending on how often you have been using it, I have been using it regularly for just over 6 weeks I am surprised to say that I have got more than two thirds of the bottle left to use and that is with using it on a daily basis and the reason for this is that you don't need to use that much at any time yet it is simple, easy and effective and it ranks highly up on my list of my favourite Lush products and it is something that I am going to continue to use probably alongside 9 to 5 because this product is Limited Edition and there is no indication as to how long it will be around.
