Advantages: Wonderful smell, Great exfoliator

Disadvantages: Gritty bits in the bath

Having long been a Lush devotee, I have spent many an hour walking round the stores sniffing the delicious aroma in the air before putting items in my basket to bring home. I?ve tried most of the Lush range now; the bubble bars, the soaps, bath ballistics and even the skin care range, but one range that I have never tried up until the past few months was the Fresh.

Lush pride themselves on using only the finest ingredients for any of their cosmetics and toiletries, and every one of their items is packed fit to burst with aromatherapy oils and either fruity or floral fragrances. Either you love Lush or you don?t, it?s quite simple and luckily I fall into the former category and have found only two items that I have not been impressed with so far.
The skincare and Fresh range is one that I?ve often been tempted to buy but have never quite made it to the checkout. It may be because I?m worried that I won?t be able to use the whole pot before it goes past the sell by date, or the majority of the time I have not been going straight home so have been worried that the contents of the pot might go ?off? before I get a chance to sample their delights. However, Lush have now redesigned the contents of the Fresh range so they will stay fresh for up to a week so with this in mind I was spoiled for choice as to what to buy for my virgin trip into being a Fresh girl.

The chances are whatever bit of your body needs a pampering, you will find it in the Fresh range. With products specifically for the face, body and the feet there is something to suit everyone. All of the products are stored in small pots and displayed on a bed of crushed ice in the stores, and there are always silver pots of gorgeous looking gunk to sample before you buy. Faced with a myriad of pots displaying gooey looking substances I was spoiled for choice and took a
ges to decide whether to give my body a good seeing to or my face. Deciding that both were probably a lost cause anyway, I plumped for the Strawberry Boat, an exfoliating body scrub.

Displayed in the shiny silver salver, Strawberry Boat looks good enough to eat?..well nearly. A cross between a pastel pink and beige, the gritty substance is topped off with a couple of strawberries to give it that Summery look and to all intents and purposes someone drunk could be fooled into thinking the pieces of grit in the exfoliator are strawberry pips and the Strawberry Boat is actually a mousse. Moral so far? Don?t take a drunk person into a Lush store.

Strawberry Boat is sold in 100g pots and costs £4.85. It can also be ordered from the website but as it is supposed to be kept refrigerated I would be a little dubious about purchasing it this way and would only buy it instore. The pot itself is clear plastic and nothing to write home about. Because the scrub is fresh, a sell by date is displayed on the pot and mine was two weeks ahead so I would imagine that some of the products have a longer shelf life than others.

I was a tad disappointed with the smell of the scrub when I opened it ready for my first bath. Although there is a strawberry scent, it is quite faint, so don?t buy this expecting a zingy blast of strawberry sensation, because that?s not what you?ll get. Instead a subtle aroma of strawberries and organic ones no less provide the main scent, although there is a very faint whiff of almonds too. Dipping your fingers into the pot, be prepared for a very cold gritty substance to envelop your fingertips, and even though I was prepared for the scrub being cold, it was still a shock as to how cold it was! Application of Strawberry Boat is simple. Simply take a dollop of the scrub and rub it into any problem areas. I us
e mine on the tops of my arms which can sometimes develop tiny pimple under the skin, and the tops of my legs. As any woman who has used an exfoliator will vouch, it?s not particularly comfortable, as the tiny pieces of grit are designed to scrub away at the skin and get rid of any lumps or bumps, and to give it a healthy soft sheen. The gritty pieces in the Strawberry Boat are pieces of sea salt and they do the job of getting rid of the dead skin cells really well. Within seconds of rubbing the scrub into my skin I could feel it becoming smoother and any little imperfections were a distant memory. My skin felt moisturised too and had a slightly oily feel to it as if I had massaged body oil into it during my bath, no doubt this is the almond oil doing its job.

I use my Strawberry Boat in the bath or shower. Of course the shower is better as the scrub washes away as I?m using it, whereas in the bath it just lays on the bottom of the tub and can cause scratched bottoms or other bits if I?m not careful, but this really is the only negative thing I can say about the scrub. I?ve used lots of other body scrubs in my time but compare Strawberry Boat with the St. Ives Apricot one and Strawberry Boat wins hands down. Yes it?s dearer ? St. Ives only costs about £3 for 400ml, but I never really noticed any difference after using that, yet with Strawberry Boat the results were instant.

Lush promise that each tub will provide two to three uses and I must admit I was very generous with my Strawberry Boat and easily got three applications out of the pot. My final conclusion? I love it. My skin feels damn good, all my bumpy bits have disappeared and as well as feeling smooth, the skin on the tops of my legs and arms positively glows leaving me feeling as fresh as a daisy??or a strawberry! After using this, I?
m off to hunt out some more of the Fresh range to see if they are just as good.
