Advantages: smells lovely, long lasting, gentle on your skin

Disadvantages: a bit powdery

Yes, that’s what my fiancé said when he saw my new deodorant this morning! But then again, he’s rather conservative when it comes to toiletries. He thinks shampoos should be liquid and deodorants should be in a spray can. I’m a convert to the new age religion of Lush, I know different ;-)

Well, I finally got my last two month’s ‘wages’ from Ciao, so I spent it all on Lush – and why not? The next few months’ contributions from my online scribblings both here and there will go towards funding the course I start in September, a two-year part-time Diploma in Creative Writing at University. So I thought I’d stock up while I have the chance.

The parcel arrived this morning, some five days after placing my order. I bought a lot of stuff, so look out for lots of Lush reviews coming up! (Sorry if this opinion is a bit less coherent than usual, but I’m also writing an op on Bacardi Breezers, which obviously requires a fair amount of testing!!)

I have already tried out several of my new products, but one I am really impressed with so far is the T’eo solid deodorant bar. I have never tried a Lush deodorant before, but I bought two this time. I can see these will become a regular on my wants list.

As it explains on the Lush website, they are not anti-perspirants, but deodorants. They don’t stop you sweating (which can be dangerous, as sweating is a natural thing our bodies are supposed to do), they just neutralise the bacteria that makes you smelly.

Lush sell three Krysztal deodorants (Aromaco, Aromarant and Oxeo Cube) which are big blocks like soap. They also sell five little Krysztal bars (Sweety Vi, T’eo, Fuwari, Krysztal and Lavender) which have hand-dipped wax on the bottom to make them easier to hold and to ensure they stick together.

The deodorants - like all Lush products - are made from natural and organic ingredients, are not tested on a
nimals and are suitable for vegetarians. Check out the website for more details.

T’eo is oval shaped, rather like you might expect a bar of soap to be. It is very white and powdery, with a little bit of flowers on the top. (This is what my fiancé was referring to in his comment!) Apparently, they are cornflower petals. Definitely not bird poo!

It is quite a strong smell if you sniff the bar, so be careful not to inhale too much or you could be sneezing, especially if you get some of the powder up your nostrils! (You don’t want to look like Danniella Westbrook, do you?!) It smells much better when it is on your skin though, much subtler.

I think the strongest fragrance is lemon, it has a definite citrus ting to it, which does make me feel fresh smelling all day. I did re-apply it once more to my armpits, but this was more because I loved the aroma, rather than because I had started to smell sweaty! I felt confidently sweet smelling all the time and the rest of the family liked the fragrance too.

Apparently, the bar gets its deodorising qualities from its ingredients of lemon oil, tea tree oil and grape juice. The smell is a combination of lemon, juniper and tea tree with apricot kernel oil to help it stay on. The website says it is suitable for either gender to wear and I would agree, as it is more of a sporty, fresh smell than a girlie, flowery one.

Although I hadn’t used a deodorant bar before, it is very easy and the oval shape makes it easy to apply to your armpits. You do get a slight powdery residue on your clothes though, so be prepared.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend it. I think it’s good value for money too at £2.45 for 50g, because you only need to use a little bit at a time and it will last for months. The smell is divine and I am sold!

Just got to convince the fiancé now. Still, he did seem rather more interested in the chocolate massage bar ;-)

Your fiance thinks a bar of deoderant is weird, you ought to take him into your local department store to the perfume bit, Thierry Mugler (who makes the ladies scents Angel and Angel Innocent and mens scents A*Men and cologne) has a mineral rock thing that you wet and use in 'your pits' bars, I can just about cope with, rocks, puuuurrlese!
I want some lush things, but have no credit card and no shop near Fishbulb :(
