Advantages: smells fab, loads of bubbles, pink bath water
Disadvantages: none for me
Lush are a company which I had never heard of before until I read a few positive reviews about some of their different products on review sites. I really liked the sound of their products so I decided to have a look on their website to see if there was a Lush store near where I lived and luckily there was two in Glasgow. I travel into Glasgow most weekends to do some shopping and I was amazed that I had never spotted the two Lush stores on my frequent visits to Glasgow. I must walk around Glasgow with my eyes closed or something to have never noticed the bright green and yellow lush sign above the shop door. However when I entered the Lush store I was like a kid in a sweet store as there was lots and lots of products to choose from and some more appealing than others.
For those of you whom haven't heard of Lush before they are basically a company which produces bath and body products which contain pure essential oils and safe synthetics. One of the best things about Lush is the fact that they are really against animal testing and only use vegetarian ingredients in their products, so basically their products are quite safe for most people to use especially those whom have sensitive skin as there are no harsh chemicals in their products. Another thing about the Lush company is the fact that they use very little or no packaging with their products which is also good for the environment. I think that the way Lush manufacture, make and package their products is fantastic and more cosmetic companies should take a leaf out of the Lush book and do the same as there are far too many cosmetic products being tested on animals.
As I mentioned above there are lots of different Lush products to choose from which are mainly highly scented, brightly coloured and have really funky names. You really do have an awful lot to choose from when you enter a Lush store and could easily spend a small fortune, I normally set myself a limit of £30-40 maximum otherwise I could easily spend double or treble that amount in the space of a few minutes. One of the first Lush products which I tried was the Comforter Bubble Bar; the Bubble Bar is basically a bubble bath which is in a solid state instead liquidised.
As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the Comforter Bubble Bar looks quite similar to a bar of decorative soap, which is mainly bright pink in colour and has a white swirl in the middle of it which makes it somewhat resemble a bright pink coloured slice of Swiss Roll. The Comforter Bubble Bar feels quite similar to a bar of soap as well, as it doesn't have a sticky or greasy feel to it. The Comforter bubble Bar which I bought weighed 200g and it cost £3.50, which is a little expensive however you can split it up so as you get more than one bath out of it, so really it isn't that expensive if you are using it again. I split my bubble bar into three pieces however I could have possibly got four or five pieces out of it, the only downside would be less bubbles to bathe in because I would be using a smaller piece.
Using the bubble bar couldn't be easier all you have to do is decide how much of it you are going to use, break off the required amount and add it to running bath water so as it dissolves and creates loads of fluffy bubbles. I found that the piece I used dissolved in the water really quickly as I crumbled it up a bit so as the pieces were smaller and dissolved a lot quicker. The first thing I noticed about the bubble bar was the fact that it turned the bath water a bright pink colour and it created quite a strong vibrant fragrance as it reacted with the hot steamy bath water. The smell which the bubble bar created wasn't too overpowering it was more of a fresh vibrant yet relaxing aroma. The bubbles produced by the bar looked the same as any other bubbles which you would get from a liquid bubble bath, they were white, fluffy and thick and lasted for well over thirty minutes whilst I relaxed in the bath.
Whilst in the bath surrounded by the bubbles and inhaling the delicious, fresh, vibrant and relaxing aroma from the Comforter Bubble Bar I felt really relaxed and soothed which was mainly die to the fact that the bubble bar contains Essential oils which are not only good for your skin but also for your mind and well being. The scent from the bubble bar I think smelt extremely similar to that of Blackcurrants or Ribena, a really sweet fresh blackcurrant aroma which had undertones of other berries such of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries etc. The scent was really similar to that of a summer fruit cocktail, but the blackcurrant was the most prominent aroma, the smell from the bubble bar is delicious it smells and looks good enough to eat; although I wouldn't advise doing this as you might end up with a dicky tummy.
Whilst in the bath surrounded with the aroma and bubbles from the bubble bar I noticed that the bath water felt really smooth and silky to the touch and it felt really gentle on my skin and not at all harsh or irritating. After nothing my skin felt slightly softer and more moisturised than it did before I bathed, however the soft feeling wasn't what I was expecting, I was expecting my skin to feel a lot softer and smoother. However one of the most noticeable benefits of using the bubble bar was the fact that my skin was really fragranced and so was the bathroom. The berry scent which the bubble bar left on my skin lingered for a good three hours or so before it gradually faded away and could no longer be smelt. The scent also lingered in the bathroom for quite sometime as well; I would say that the aroma lingered in the air of the bathroom for approximately an hour and a half before it faded away.
Another good thing about the Bubble Bar was the fact that it didn't leave a bright pink coloured residue in and around the bath. I have used a few Lush Products before which have left a residue and discolouration in the bath but with this one it doesn't seem to do this. The only residue which it leaves behind in the bath is a few bubbles which are easily rinsed down the plug hole with some water. It also doesn't leave your skin feeling oily, greasy, tacky or sticky either.
As I mentioned earlier the bubble bar contains Essential Oils which are not only good for your skin and body but also your mind as they help you to feel relaxed and soothed. The essential oil which is in the bubble bar is Cypress Oil. Cypress Oil is distilled from the leaves and cones of the Cypress tree using steam distillation. The Trees which the oil is obtained from are really quite tall and grow up to 140 feet tall and they somewhat resemble fir trees as they have the same small brown cones on them. The extracted Cypress Oil is colourless however it has quite a strong aroma which is very woody, earthy and fresh smelling. The added benefits from the Cypress Oil is the fact that it acts as an antiseptic, is aids blood flow and circulation. As for aromatherapy benefits Cypress Oil helps to balance your mood, comfort and calm you. This is probably one of the main reasons why I felt so relaxed when I was in the bath when I used the Comforter Bubble Bar.
The Comforter bubble bar also contains Cassis Absolute which is a dark brown coloured liquid which is obtained from the flowers of the cassis tree. Cassis Absolute is quite expensive to purchase and it costs around £1000 for a kilogram. Cassis Absolute has quite a strong spicy aroma which is also quite rich and warm smelling; however you cant really smell the Cassis Absolute in the Comforter Bubble Bar as it seems to be overpowered by the scent of the blackcurrant and other fruity berries.
I am really pleased with the Comforter Bubble bar and it is a Lush product which I will continue to purchase because it smells fantastic, fragrances my skin and doesn't irritate or make my skin feel all dry. If you haven't tired any lush products before I highly recommend that you do so and the Comforter bubble Bar would be a good first product for all the Lush Virgins to try out first as it is really easy to use and makes you feel all relaxed in the bath.
If you like the sound of the Comforter Bubble Bar then you can purchase a 200g slice of it from any Lush Store for the price of £3.50, you also have the option to purchase it online as well however I have noticed that the prices on the lush website are slightly more expensive compared to purchasing in in one of their stores. Online a 200g slice of the Comforter will cost you £3.95 from www.lush.co.uk.
