Advantages: Cheap, smells nice, gets you clean
Disadvantages: Doesn't live up to claims, doesn't leave you luminous or soft skinned
This is one of those products I've bought when I've ran out of shower gel, been in the local 'cheapy' shop and picked whatever looked and smelt best off the shelf.
Lux say this product will leave your skin radiant, beautiful with "a glow from top to toe". Now firstly I will say I was a little disappointed as it doesn't do this at all. I expected my skin to look healthy, glowing, maybe even a little shimmery. I couldn't tell any difference looks wise, when using this product or not using it. For the name of research, before writing this review I popped upstairs and washed one arm with it and left the other as it was. The result? They both look exactly the same!
Straight after washing my arm it did feel a bit softer than my unwashed arm. Not really soft but there was a difference. Now, five minutes later, there is no difference what so ever.
Lux is pH neutral so shouldn't upset the normal skin balances and the selling point of this particular product is it contains pearl proteins and orchid milk. Pearl protein is said to be good for mature skins and are supposed to make the skin appear more radiant and luminous. However, as I have just mentioned, on my skin there was no visual effect, although perhaps this would work better on more mature skins. Orchid milk is said to make the skin silky soft and has a great toning and regenerating effect. Again as I said I haven't noticed any improvement in my skin from using this product and it definitely doesn't feel silky soft. Perhaps the quantities of these beneficial ingredients aren't high enough to have any effect.
It smells quite sweet, I actually like the scent, which is why I bought it, but I think it may be a scent that would be suited for older women too, although not in a bad 'lavender' esque way. It smells luxurious and grown up is all. It contains vanilla amongst other 'perfumes' to create a lovely gentle scent. The scent is lovely in the shower but doesn't linger. I can very very vaguely smell it on my skin now but barely. After first washing you can smell it on you're skin but not in an over powering way.
The packaging is okay, it looks quite classy, it's an opaque cream that shows the product through and suits the pearl and orchid milk theme. The writing is in gold and turquoise, the only thing letting it down is the photo of a woman's head on the front of the bottle. This is small and just looks a bit weird and random. The shape of the bottle is quite nice, it has a 'waist' so to speak, almost like an hour glass figure and the top is a sort of wave effect. It's very easy to open but I've had no problem with any leakage. The only downside for some people may be it has no hook for hanging it in the shower but this isn't an issue to me as we have a shelving thing on our shower wall.
When applied using your hands it does lather but not in a bubbly way, more in a creamy soapy way. When applied on one of those puffy net thingys (oh you know what I mean!) it lathers up well and you need far less to wash your entire body. It rinses off easily and doesn't leave any residue.
All in all this is an okay shower gel but nothing outstanding. Don't expect it to change your skin dramatically but it smells nice, it gets you clean and it's a fair price. Expect to pay between £1-£2 for a 250ml bottle.
Summary: Average shower gel
