I recently bought Macleans FRESH Mint toothpaste. Im not into all these whitening, fizzing, super powered toothpastes. like the basic ones. I got this one from Safeways for £2.55 on a buy one get one free offer. BARGAIN I thought!!! Macleans is available at al chemists/drug stores and supermarkets so itis easy to get hold of! The paste is a product from GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, Brentford. It is also by appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales. The 100ml tube is in a cardboard box. Quite brightly decorated with Blue and white, to portray the fresh element I spose! On the box and tube, the product claims to: 1) Have an Antibacterial action 2) Helps strengthen teeth 3) Fights plaque 4) Fights decay 5) Freshens breath The five core elements expected of your toothpaste in my opinion. The paste is just plain white but who needs stripes!! The top/cap is a flip top so easy to open but can get a bit gunged up so it needs to be kept clean and clear of excess paste. If it does get gunged up the top wont shut and toothpaste goes hard! Yuk! Oh
and dont forget to peel off the little foil seal from inside the cap before you start!!! Directions for use: Brush twice daily. For children under 7, use a pea sized amount and supervise to minimise swallowing. If using Fluoride supplements, consult your dentist. Do not use if the foil seal on the nozzle is broken. Remove foil before use. Active Ingredients: Sodium Fluoride 0.036% w/w (1350ppm fluoride) Unfortunately I have no idea what this means!!! But it does say to try not to swallow so I assume its enough fluoride to be bad for you! The paste smells a bit like Tic Tacs, the little minty sweets from the eighties (or whenever!!! I ate them in the eighties!)I placed a centimetre length of paste on my brush as directed and dampened. Then i began to brush. I try to brush for three minutes as recommended by my dentist. I ensured my teeth would need a good clean and my mouth a good freshen up by having a few beers and a kebab the night before!! Euch!! Yes i will test this toothpaste to the limits!!! The sensation was plesant, it was immediately refreshing on the tongue and gums, although I found it rather hot on the tip of my tongue! My little boy found it a bit hot for his tiny mouth! When I ran my tongue around my mouth the freshness seemed to follow. Ten minutes later and my mouth feels clean and fresh. If i run my tongue around my mouth again, I still get the cool freshness i did when I had first brushed them!! Cool!! I always brush before going to bed but hate it when you wake up next morning with a furry mouth. This didnt happen with this toothpaste. Obviously the inevitable morning breath did occur but my mouth did not feel yuk, as it can sometimes. I definitely would recommend this tooth paste if you just like a good old fashioned white one what practises what it preaches!!

- 18/12/03 Nice op. I used to love Macleans, but for some weird reason it started burning my tongue so I had to change to Colgate. I still miss the zingy Macleans taste. |
