Advantages: Pretty tube

Disadvantages: Expensive and doesn't deliver

I have been using Macleans White and Shine toothpaste for a few months now so I thought it was probably time to do a review on it. I am coming to the end of my current tube and having considered whether to buy it again, I have decided against it.

The toothpaste comes in a cardboard box. Inside is a really funky looking tube (well, as funky as toothpaste gets). It is a metallic purple colour with lots of little tiny stars pictured on it, along with the metallic teal Macleans logo. The top is made from white plastic and is a screw on top.

The tube states that the toothpaste 'cleans and polishes for whiter, shinier teeth' and that it uses 'micro-buffers' which 'help polish away imperfections for smoother teeth'. The toothpaste also offers enamel protection and 'helps protect against plaque and decay with regular brushing'.

The directions are very basic like most toothpastes: you are instructed to brush twice daily and consult your dentist if you are using fluoride supplements. The tube does however point out that it is not suitable for children under 7 years, so this isn't a good family toothpaste if you have young kids in the house.

The toothpaste is white and has a normal consistency, not too thick or too thin. It tastes vaguely of mint but it is not a strong flavour. The toothpaste doesn't feel any different to other toothpastes when you are using it.

Having been using it for a while, I can report that it has made absolutely no difference to the whiteness or shininess of my teeth. They look exactly the same as they did when I was using a toothpaste which had no whitening claims. I have also found that I have slightly more plaque on my teeth than when I started using this toothpaste. Therefore I wouldn't recommend it.

A 100 ml tube of this toothpaste will set you back £2.32 from most supermarkets or pharmacies. That's quite a high price when you consider that you can get the same amount of Macleans regular toothpaste for 82p!

Summary: Not worth the price

I've never got on well with Macleans toothpaste. Don't know why. Great review.
