Advantages: Easy to apply
Disadvantages: The smell and taste!
I first discovered Malibu dry oil spray when I was purchasing items for my wedding last year in Paphos. I was amazed at the price of the branded suntan creams, such as Nivea, Piz buin etc, they all cost between £8 and £12 per bottle, if you were lucky you could sometimes catch an offer, but in my eyes they were still very expensive.
I went to my local Bodycare shop and this is when I spotted Malibu dry oil spray, the thing that I found most attractive was the price, it only cost £3 for a 200ml bottle. At first I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be very good protection against the sun with it being so cheap, but I thought, 'what the heck' and purchased 4 bottles. Four bottles cost me £12, I could have only bought one bottle of branded sun tan cream for this amount!!
They come in a variety of different sun protection factors (SPF), ranging from factor 4 right upto factor 12. For those of you that aren't aware, the higher the SPF, the more protection you get against the sun, so it is recommended that you start off your holiday with a high factor and then as your skin becomes used to the sun reduce the factor as your holiday goes on. Therefore I decided to buy 2 factor 12 bottles and two factor 4 bottles.
The bottle itself is clear with an orange spray top. There is a sticker on the front that has the Malibu logo on there and it states underneath that it is a dry oil spray and has the SPF in big numbers. It also states that it is protection for body and scalp, easy application and that it is non greasy, it also states that the oil is waterproof.
It advises you on the back that you must ensure all exposed skin is evenly and generously covered with the protective dry oil. You should apply it 30 minutes before and frequently during exposure to the sun. You should always re-apply after swimming and if the oil is rubbed off by a towel or clothes.
When I first applied the oil, the first thing I noticed was the smell of it, it smelled like alcohol and was quite strong, but once you had squirted it the smell disappeared after a few seconds. The oil spray was so much easier to apply than the creams, you literally just squirt it all over your body and just give it a small rub and it then disappears quickly into your skin without leaving any greasiness behind.
As the label said, this can also be used on your scalp, I am very fair haired so used to find that my scalp burnt terribly if I didn't wear a hat, but all I need to do now is squirt the oil into my hair and this then protects my scalp, im also pleased to say that it doesn't make my hair look greasy either.
My husband and I both used this oil for our week long holiday in Paphos and for our two week honeymoon in Cancun. The weather in Cancun was considerably hotter than Paphos and I am pleased to say that this oil provided wonderful protection against the sun on both our holidays. We didn't burn once and came home with a lovely, even tan. The only downside to the oil is the taste!! Obviously I didn't drink it but when you squirt it on your face, when it comes into contact with your lips it doesn't taste very nice at all!!!
Summary: A great value sun protection oil
