One of my favourite ways to relax after a long hard day is a soak in a lovely deep bath filled with bubbles - and my daughter seems to take after me in thie respect . I tend to try not to use my bubble baths with her, as she's still young and a lot of the products I used are heavily perfumed, so, when purchasing a child friendly bubble bath, I went with a brand I'd known since childhood - Matey.

Matey have been going since 1958, when they launched their first product - Sailor Matey, in a distinctive skittle shaped bottle . Since then, Sailor Matey had had many redesigns, and over time he's been accompanied by over 25 colourful friends . The current range has four characters - Sailor Matey , Mer-Matey, Lucky Matey and Doctopus Matey.

Oackaging will very depending on which character you buy . Sailor Matey is a colourful, cheerful little chap , looking smart in his sailors uniform, with his little hand raised to his brow in a salute.

Mer-matey is one for the girls - dressed all in pink, with seashells adorning her long blonde hair and her tail curled prettily under her, she's bound to appeal to little girls everywhere .

Lucky Matey is a colourful parrot , covered in vibrant grren feathers with an eye patch over one eye - the perfect mate for an pirate fans .

And finally, we have Doctopus matey, tentacles curled, wearing a lab coat and holding a bottle of some bubbling potion - this bubble bath magically changes from red to blue in the water!

All the bottles are 500ml, and each bottle has around 30 baths worth of product in it, according to the packaging. Me and my daughter both like a lot of bubbles though (how else are we going to give ourselves beards!) so we use a little more than the recommended one or two glugs . However,we still get a good 20+ baths out of each bottle .

All the bottles are curved to add features to the limbs of the characters, and very very colourful . When empty, they can be weighted with sand or rice and used as skittles, and when still full of bubble bath, they are a great aid to imaginative bathtime stories .

Clearly, this are very appealing to children - but as an adult, it's also reassuring to know that Matey is specially developed for children over the age of one . It's dermatologically tested to be kind to even sensitive skin, is ph balances, and has added moisturisers in the form of natural seaweed extracts.

The most important thing with bubble bath is - how well does it bubble . It bubbles a lot - poured under a running tap with a little bit of handswishing, we soon have a bath full of creamy white bubbles, that last and don't disappear as quickly as with some other brands . The product does have a mild scent, nothing I can identify and nothing overpowering, just a mild clean smell.

It costs £1.67 for a bottle of this at Asda, which I think is reasonable considering the bottles can be recycled and used as fun skittles or even as dolls (obviously, clean the bottles out thoroughly first). I would like to see a few more characters available though , as we have all the bottles from the four there are at present. I did consider switching to another brand of child friendly bubble bath and decanting it into the matey bottles, but I have yet to find anything as good as Matey for gentleness and the amount of bubbles produced .

The ingredients, for anyone who is interested are :
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-5 Cocamide, Sodium Chloride, Glycerin, Sodium Lactate, Hypnea Musciformis, Gellidiela Acerosa, Sargassum Filipendula, Chndrus Crispus, Parfum, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Benzoic Acid, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Denatonium Benzoate.

I'll definitely keep buying this - my daughter loves it, especially making up stories involving the characters, and I love knowing that it is soft and gentle . I also love the amount of bubbles it produces, and have been known to pinch a bit myself !

My only niggle is I would like to see a few more characters so I could grow my collection of Matey skittles!
