Advantages: Gets everything clean.
Disadvantages: Pink wont attract boys!
Formerly Miss Matey this bubble bath came out in 1960, some time after the successful start of Mr Matey in 1958, and specifically for the female market. Originally the bottle was a familiar skittle shape with pink print and was my favourite as a child. Also in 1960 saw the beginning of the Christmas special matey's - Santa Matey and Rudolph Matey.
Later on we were introduced to Snowy Matey (Winter) and Wizard Matey (which I cant quite remember but think it might have had glitter in it).
In 2000 the whole Matey line was reborn and repackaged with only 4 formulas: original character Sailor Matey, Mer-Matey the mermaid, Lucky Matey the pirate parrot and Doctopus Matey the octopus.
Far from the original bottle as we can get, other than the familiar turned 'hat' top the bottles now resemble bobble heads without the movements - ie big heads. As a adult I really appreciate the old bottles with their memories, however my daughter loves the look of the new bottles, using empty ones as dolls in the bath!
We bought ours from Asda on special offer, however normal RRP is only £1 for a 500ml bottle, which is more than enough for 30 or more baths. You can use the inner cap as a guide to how much to use (which isnt much)
The mixture pours out quite nicely as a semi-runny light pink clear gel with a flowery smell which has suddenly prompted my daughter to pinch it and take a bath..... eep! It foams really well and the bubbles last through the bath and not much beyond 30 minutes though. But that's great as if they hit 30 minutes it usually means they come out like wrinkly old people! It also means this product it quite easy to clean up after.
One note though, don't add too much... my nan still recommends Matey neat on a sponge to get wax crayon off walls. And yes I have tested it on a cream wall. It worked!
Small word from my 8 year old
"I like my mermaid bubble bath it smells nice and makes my bath all bubbly and ......" (sorry I cant make out the rest she's starting to run upstairs for a bath!)
Matey is made in the UK by the Sara Lee group.
Summary: Remodel of a 1960 classic favourite bubble bath
