Advantages: Gorgeous smell, instant shine and long lasting
Disadvantages: Addictive!
I have used this product on and off for over 2 years; I still use it because it's truly different, very exotic and exciting to use. I like the texture, thickness and especially the sweet, gorgeous '''SMELL!''' This was my main reason for buying it in the first place.
I had run out of body moisturiser (I use it a lot), so I headed to my favourite shop, Boots, looking for a new moisturiser, as I like to change fragrances fairly often. This is my advice to you; never use a body moisturizer more than a couple of months, or you will gradually lose the sense of smell (honestly!). As usual, Boots likes to surprise us with new and different products and they had added this new range of products which they called MEDITERRANEAN; they had done the perfect job so far, just by their choice of name :0)!
I saw this new range displayed clearly: firstly, the name attracted my eye, and it was offered with a £1 off voucher; I was curious to have a look and explore what's behind the name!
~~~ A CLOSER LOOK . . . ~~~
The first thing I noticed was the usage of natural organic nuts and their oils, in addition to milk, honey, oats, avocado, wheat and olive oil. This explains why they chose such a name: it's because the ingredients come mostly from the Mediterranean. It's a well known fact that people from the Mediterranean have the clearest and the softest skin in the world (yeah it's true!) because we have plenty of sun, and we use varieties of natural oils (especially olive and almond oils) for cooking and cosmetics, in addition to tanning purposes!
~~~ A BEAUTY LESSON . . . ~~~
Before I start, I want to point out the difference between body lotion and body butter and what is better for your skin . . .
Body lotion is often runny, thin and can be poured out easily; while body butter is much thicker, very rich and of a very firm consistency and is usually very intense.
Also . . . body butter is usually great for very dry skin especially during winter. It is absorbed more slowly than lotion, so when using body butter bear in mind that you will need to give more time massaging it until it has completely penetrated into the skin; the results will show immediately.
The body butter will be more expensive than a lotion but it will go further so it should be worth it. Unless your skin will not absorb the butter, I prefer the butter over the lotions as it is more intensive and gives me softer, supple and glowing skin.
~~~THE BOOTS MEDITERRANEAN RANGE . . . ~~~
They have over 35 different products which will all care for your body . . . these start from body lotions, body butters, body scrubs, through to bath creams, and body wash, using very interesting ingredients which sound good enough to eat (such as orange, lemon, honey, almond, pistachio, vanilla and avocado)!
I'm going to review one of the best in their range . . . Almond and Pistachio and Milk body butter. I tried most of the range; I can't say I liked them all, some of them smelled like sick! But this one is just perfect for me!
~~ ALMOND~PISTACHIO & MILK BODY BUTTER . . . ~~
~~~ WHY IS IT SO GOOD? ~~~
They have used natural organic almond and pistachio oils; by using the organic product we benefit from naturally grown nuts with no chemicals or hormones included, so this can be counted as a positive point.
~~~ PISTACHIO OIL ~~~
It has a strong, distinctive but sweet, pleasant smell; it is dark green and pretty thick, and is used for skin moisturizing because it's high in vitamin E which is good for skin, giving it the right elasticity and making the skin suppler; it may also give extra shine.
~~~ALMOND OIL ~~~
The best moisturizing oil so far, almond oil is light, and rich in unsaturated fats and essential fatty acids; it is a skin softener which gives instant shine to skin once applied. It is easily absorbed into the skin and is used to make many natural skin care products. With its slight nutty odour it might be not everyone's favourite smell but to me it still smells ok.
~~~MILK ~~~
Milk is known for its moisturising abilities, and the Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra used milk instead of water in her bath! It gives the skin a natural illumination and regains the lost glow; softens rough skin and is a natural whitening fluid!
~~~ THE LOOK, SMELL AND TEXTURE . . . ~~~
Once I opened the pot . . . the mixture looked very thick and quite oily; the colour is an off-white, magnolia or simply BUTTERY! If I hold it upside down, it stays sticking to the pot; nothing falls out!
The smell is very strong (in a good way). I actually like it a lot. As I started to sniff it, the pistachio aroma dominated the whole pot; it was very obviously present while the smell of almond was quite subtle here but noticeable. I can honestly say the smell was good enough to eat!
~~~ HOW TO APPLY THE BODY BUTTER . . . ~~~
I usually use body butter after a hot bath so that my body is ready to receive any kind of treatment. The hot bath opens the skin pores widely so my skin can benefit more. As I mentioned before, it is a butter, so unlike lotions, very little can be made to expand much further as it melts, so it is money and time saving but at the end of the day you can use as much as you like depending on your skin condition.
As a guide I recommend using as little as a 2p size per application and believe me it's more than enough!
To get the most benefit from it, massage the cream into your skin in circular motions (massage gently though!) until the cream has completely disappeared; you can know that it's perfectly done when your skin is left with the ultimate shine and just a tiny bit oily.
It often takes me more than 45 minutes to finish; I know it sounds like too much time, but I like to look after myself, and as I don't have anyone to nag or rant about it, I take my time!
Once I applied it; I instantly felt the difference . . . my whole body was wrapped with that smell, it was gorgeous . . . and unlike some other body butter creams the smell stayed all night (and didn't stain the sheets!); surprisingly, it didn't change at all; on the contrary, it left a nice subtle scent . . . I really liked it.
Another thing is that the moment it touched my skin it left a very shiny film or a thin layer on my skin, which was a little bit oily at the beginning but not stick. After a while the oiliness disappeared and only the shine and softness stayed . . . now, this is what I call pampering!
Anyway . . . I gave it more time to see if the smell would change or the butter cream would disappear and leave the skin drier than the Sahara desert (like many other products I have tried); I waited for a few more hours but the results were still perfect!
Sometimes I have put this body butter on, and then gone swimming for hours . . . believe it or not; it didn't wash away!
~~ WARNINGS ~~
*I would like to point that it has almond and pistachio oils which are nuts and I'm not sure if nuts allergy sufferers can use it on their bodies but it worth mentioning.
* Another thing to mention is it has hydrolyzed MILK PROTIEN, so again you may take this into consideration.
*There is a small funny warning on the tub which I want you to know about it . . . THIS IS NOT FOOD! So you've been warned lol.
* Finally . . . store in cold dry place and DON'T tell anyone what you are using! Keep it a secret even from your husband! (Unless you can get him to apply it for you while you are relaxed!)
One negative point . . .
It is so addictive indeed! You use it once . . . and voila . . . you are an addict! This is very true; I have tried most of this Mediterranean range because I wanted to test the different smells (fragrances) and I was very curious to explore the whole range and so I did, being careful not to break the bank. Fortunately BOOTS are doing a good job in keeping the price on the moderate side.
~~PRICES AND AVAILABILITY ~~
It can be only found at Boots the Chemist, and online at Boots.com.
There is one fixed price for this gorgeous product; you may find cheaper products for less but they won't be as good as this one. I'm more than happy to pay the full price.
£7.50p for 200 ml tub, or
£2.00 for the 50ml tub which fits into the smallest hand bag.
(I don't go out anywhere without taking it with me!)
Watch out for special offers and some good promotions.
Sometimes Boots offer 'buy one and get one free' or 'buy one and get the other at half price' . . . these days it's a bargain '3 for 2'.
~~CONCLUSION . . . ~~
Boots Mediterranean is one of my favourite products and it's always on my cluttered dressing table! For the '''almond and pistachio & milk body butter''', they used the finest organic oils and these two oils complement each other perfectly! It has everything you need to have a smooth silky and shiny skin without the hassle and definitely your partner would prefer the velvety touch of your legs instead of the touch of the blades (I know a lot of men complain about it, especially in winter when the skin is very dry and flaky)!
Although they have used the best ingredients and some exotic and exciting fruits and nuts the price is very affordable. It's only the price of a pint or a glass of wine in a bar or restaurant!
*This product has not been tested on animals.
*Dermatologically tested.
I hope you like it.
