Advantages: Smells gorgeous
Disadvantages: Bit more expensive
I am always happy to try out new daily grooming products and deodorant is no exception. I find that a normal deodorant is never quite strong enough to do the job for the whole day, especially if I have to do a lot of strenuous housework, or have opted for a trip to the park with the kids, and having already tried the toughest end of the market with Driclor, I decided on attempting something in the middle.
Mitchum’s deodorants come in three styles – the roll on, the aerosol and the hydro stick. For the purposes of this review I will be concentrating on the aerosol in powderfresh, but have tried all the various types and found them to match the excellent effects of the aerosol.
The first thing I would say is the size of the can does not resemble others on the supermarket shelf, like Sure, for instance. It seems to be much smaller and it makes you wonder initially what you are getting for your money. Mitchum aerosol comes in a 150ml can for £2.65, unless you hotfoot it down to Sainsbury’s like I did, where you can pick it up for £1.65 on special offer.
The promise of Mitchum’s is that it will protect you and keep you fresh and dry for 48 hours. I would really not want to try this theory out and carry on having my daily shower and nightly bath, however when I have used this it does only require one application in the morning and I am dry and sweet smelling for the rest of the day. On application the fragrance of the powderfresh variety is especially noticeable. It smells just like talcum powder. It reminds me of babies and is a lovely smell to greet you in the morning. I often used to rub some Johnson’s Talc into my tummy after showering just so I could have that fresh, sweet smell about me for a little while. With this deodorant, the fragrance does linger but not in a nasty way.
Other fragranced deodorants that I have tried smell quite nice to start with but after a while, when they begin to work, while you are doing something demanding, the smell does seem to be a lot worse, and mixed with the natural smell of sweat they tend not to be too appealing. Mitchum is different though I have found that as it starts to work it remains smelling of talcum powder. It retains the sweet original smell and does not turn into a chemical disaster under your arms.
The strength of this deodorant is better than the average one of the shelves, hence the 48-hour claim, and I like the protection and assurance of this. However I have to be careful when trying stronger deodorants as I had a nasty reaction to Driclor and found it was far too heavily laced with Aluminium for my skin. I was concerned when I began to use Mitchum’s that I would suffer the same terrible stinging and itching as I did with Driclor, but the aluminium in Mitchum’s is fifth on the list, so must not be such a high concentrate. This seems a perfect balance for my skin and I have not experienced any irritation at all, even after shaving my underarms.
I apply it in the morning and even through exercise via housework and playing with the kids it keeps me dry and free from body odour, which I am exceptionally grateful for. I don’t think I will be returning to other brands of deodorant in the future as Mitchum’s really does fill all my anti-perspirant requirements and even at a slightly higher price I am satisfied this will be my deodorant of choice for a while to come.
