Advantages: Very long-lasting

Disadvantages: Can be pricey - shop around

I've always used a roll-on anti-perspirant deodorant, but recently I've tried one or two of the cheaper store's own brand ones and felt that they weren't really doing the job as well as they might. So whilst in John Lewis, I had a look to see what else was available and found the Mitchum anti-perspirant deodorant that claims it is 'so effective you can even skip a day'. At the price of £1.77 it seemed worth trying.

Another reviewer seemed happy with Mitchum but couldn't bear the thought of not washing every day. I decided that I wanted to see if the claims of forty-eight hour protection really were true. I used Mitchum for the first time after having a shower, on a day that I was going to work. After shaking the bottle, I applied it in the usual way. It seemed creamier than other roll-ons I'm used to using and took longer to dry, but not more than two or three minutes which isn't a huge problem. I had chosen the 'powderfresh' scent, which appeared to be a combination of a heavy perfume, not particularly pleasant but not long lasting either, and a lighter, more delicate fragrance that I found to be the enduring one.

I was perfectly happy with Mitchum's performance that day, as my underarms stayed dry and there was a gentle perfume, not an overpowering one. The following morning I got up and still felt no sign of perspiration. As I was not going to work that day, I decided to put Mitchum to the test. If it didn't last, it would be quite easy for me to have a wash or a shower and apply some more. That morning I walked for about an hour; in the afternoon I walked again for at least forty-five minutes and carried some heavy shopping home. The weather was mild and I was wearing a jumper with a leather jacket on top, so normally I would have been in a pretty sticky state by the time I got home. But no, Mitchum lived up to its claim - my underarms were still dry, and the delicate smell was still noticeable. Even by the following morning I still felt quite fresh, although I can assure you I did have a shower at the end of the forty-eight hours!

The Mitchum roll-on is made by Revlon and comes in a green plastic 100ml bottle. As I mentioned, I bought the 'powderfresh' variety, but there is also an unperfumed one that presumably would be suitable for men as well. It claims to give anti-bacterial protection as well as being a long-lasting anti-perspirant deodorant. The bottle warns that it should not be used on damaged or irritated skin, but this is normal for all anti-perspirants.

I have already mentioned that I bought mine for £1.77 at John Lewis, who claim to be 'never knowingly undersold', and this was not a special offer. On Tesco's website the price is £2.66, although at the time of writing they have a special offer of two for £3 (ending very soon) which is excellent value. As it has worked so well for me, I obviously feel that it is worth spending more money on - I wouldn't normally go without washing, but you do feel more confident knowing that this is such a long-lasting product.

Based on personal experience, I would definitely recommend Mitchum.
